Who went last night?! It was nuts! Best glowstick war I've ever been at. WOW! Not to mention I found some of the cleanesed, most awesome doses ever! Great experience!
ever been pegged in the eye with one??? its not fun. some of us go to the shows for the music and to just boogie...we dont need that crap. i totally respect your right to express yourself and have a good time, but i expect the same. invading my space with flying projectiles just isnt respectful what make its 'fun' to you to throw things at people??? its a serious question, one that perhaps you should ponder next time you eat some of those 'cleanesed, most awesome doses'
glowstick wars are great. the heavy glow sticks suck yes, but bands have put out disclaimers (which some choose to ignore) about only using the bracelet/knecklace kind of glowsticks, that are light and mellow. those hurt no one and dazzle the eye....
Sounds like NO ONE listened. I'm so glad that some long-time head didn't get a spot so someone could come for the same damn toys and drugs they get at the greasy kiddie raves. SCENE KILLERS! I've heard Billy vent about crap being thrown, and Jeff Austin, too (on stage and off) have some fucking respect.
have fun who cares if uptight people bitch you paid for a ticket do what you do. i wasnt up there i thought about riding up. stay home if you want to sit on your ass.
yea tahts exactly what was going on. Even if you did get hit in the eye with one of those it wouldnt hurt. Seriously, dont be such a tight ass, glowsticks are fun and also there is no "thrill in throwing things at people". nobody is directing the glowsticks at anybody, people are just tossing them for an awesome sight. Even if I did get hit in the eye on the off chance of that happening and even if somehow it did hurt I'm pretty sure I'd just get over it quickly knowing that it was an accident and nobody intentionaly hurt me. Glowstick wars add to the magic for me. Why would you let something like that bother you and give you bad vibes for the show?
the same person who gets mad abot a glowstick is the same person who gets mad when someone bumps into them. Im there to get down.
totaly, I hate when somebody gives me a dirty look wehn I accidently bump them. I always give people a big smile and thumbs up if something like that happens. For the most part people at jam shows aren't trying to be assholes
my uncle was at an ACDC show, he stepped on a guys foot and he threatened to kick his ass....same thing happened a week later at his first Dead show and the guy smiled and apologized for having his foot there. very different crowds. throwing any sized glow stick at the stage or the musicians is fucked, don't do it. but in the crowd, no problem.
I went to both nights at the Fox Theatre this year. And to top it off it was my birthday. Both nights the boys were full of energy and played like they were never going to play again. Ofcourse I hippy flipped my ass off both nights. I know some are against that but it really helps me understand the jams. I recommend psychadelics to anyone that doesnt understand music as good as the next person. Anyways, I was suprised a gigantic diamond shaped flat screen TV floating above the boys. That was a first for me. The videos (mostly nature; plants and that sort of thing) they showed were amazing. and the effects during most of the show up on the screen made it looked like it was a portal that you could fly into. They used mostly "magic eye" type stuff which was tight. The lights were perfect too by the way. the first night I walked in towards the end of Mouna Bowa. the Just One Story was pretty lame in my opinion. They pretty much cruised through Joyful Sound and Windy Mountain except for an excellent trance jam after Joyful Sound. Alot of people were sitting down and relaxing until Billy introduced On the Road and the place just exploded. They played night city time traffic videos which was awesome and then they go into Rain which was perfectly done. And then just as I think they are going to end it back into On the Road. Best sandwich I have ever heard....up until that point. Out of all my Cheese shows the second set of the first night was the best set I had ever heard. The whole set was a Black Clouds sandwich. Lands end was out of this world. Billy made us all smile when he did perfect impersonations of both the late greats during Elvis's Wild Ride and Johnny Cash. The whole theatre was singing, "Johnny Cash is on that train, and he aint never coming back." During Texas Billy forgot the words. That is the third time he has done that to me! But he made up for it with the best solo of the night. Jellyfish was great. I bet you could here the name Alice from about ten blocks away! The house almost blew up. I thought they had forgot all about Black Clouds and then Boom! It hit me like a ton of bricks. All of the boys and the biggest smiles on their faces. They tricked everyone in the house. Missin Me' was mediocre but just as I thought they were winding down the night Michael pulls out the violin and introduces Devil Went Down to Georgia. And the jam was incredible. Thats all I can say. This was definately Billys set. The second night I was pretty late getting in. Hey what can I say? when theres nitrous staring me right in the face I'm powerless. I walked during Outside and Inside and it really felt like the boys were talking to me. Blue Bossa was perfect eventhough it seemed a little "practiced". I still enjoyed it very much. Little did I know that Michael was going to blow my mind with the violin later on. Little Hands was wonderful. Billy sang the second stanza. I'll never forget. Billy seemed like he was getting choked up and me and couple of kids around me couldnt help but cry a little bit. But then for a quick pick me up before set break- MIGHTY QUINN! WOW! That is how great the whole song was. Second set was almost as good as the one the night before. This was Michael, Kyle, and Jason's night. They were on fire in the second set. Howard which was OK. and then Meet Me In the Morning (Dylan) which included a great jam. Dont Say was incredible. Then they started into Shine. All the women around me had hearts in their eyes as Michael sang away. Best Feeling gave me my birthday wish. Thats what I have been wanting to here all my life as a String Cheese fan. It it was perfect. They had a rapper for Everyday People although I was not that impressed. I'm not sure who it was but being in Atlanta I wish they could have got Andre 3000 or something. oh well he got me pumped none the less. and then there another trance type jam that went into Galactic! Michaels violin was on fire! The jamming was ridiculous! and then they back into Shine! which was incredible the second time around! trust me guys the exclamation marks belong there. And they ended their Fox Theatre legacy with Smile and you couldnt help but do so. After the shows I hung out for a little bit and I saw Michael, Billy, and Travis come out to hang out with the crew for a little while. Most everyone was leaving. I got to shake hands with Michael but he really didnt notice me since a dozen other tripping hippies were trying to shake his hand. Billy looked down at me and we made eye contact and he smiled before he went back stage. I wish I could have mustered up the courage to say thankyou. oh well maybe next time. all I can say is cheesy does it.
I like a good glowstick war. Something very insane about a glowstick war, like shit is flying everywhere. People are going nuts.
oh yeah. I forgot to mention the glowstick war. It was a pretty intense one during Lester Had a Coconut if I'm not mistaken. during the second set of the first night.
also it is important to note that they played Born on the Wrong planet in its entirety during the second set of the first night. maybe thats why I enjoyed it so much. i dont know. but is this pretty signifigant? why did they play an entire album like that? have they ever done that before? Is that their favorite album? and with the Black Clouds sandwich aswell! Drumminmama, you know Cheese better than anyone here. do you have any thoughts on this? or am I just thinking too much this morning
Jez, this is a guess, and thinking about everyone's senses of humor... I see this as one of a few things (or of course, a mix) BOTWP and the pieces on it are a snapshot of a particular moment not only in the band's history, but also in the fan circle. those were the "oh good lord we just might pull this off days." (esp the family) Could it have been a hat-tip to those who have been there all along? darn good chance. It's also one of the better flows on a cd that I own, actual concept albums aside, so maybe it just needed to happen. It's also the beginning of the best of Billy's songwriting-- something I think has gone by the wayside in recent years. This could be Billy's goodbye to what SCI is and was, sort of like a couple reminicing as they go their separate ways. I'm also remembering that BOTWP was recorded with Kyle as a guest, before he joined the band. Did Travis and Billy do their Elvis, or was it full band? The Travis -Billy Elvis was always a highlight. Hearing that Mauna was back , ohhh geeezzz that was my hooping song. I'd loan out my hoop all night( I also photographed a lot of late 90s shows) but I had to have it back for Mauna. I was a Jean luc Ponty fan, but I'd not heard his world beat album before Michael turned me onto it. Rhum 'n' Zuc is also from luc Ponty. We turned Michael onto the better McKenna books to read in Bookpeople one day. We are even. I'm eager to see what the SF setlists look like. And where Winter Carnival will take them.
nope, dancing is one thing, throwing stuff is quite another. but yeah, the light weight stuff can look good. My objection was the "review" of the show mentioned glowstick wars and doses..and no music. Stay home if you don't want to listen!!!!!!!!!! I'm from the hooper crowd years, and we could eat some SPACE! I think my last hooping indoor show was actually in a VIP hooper "pit" outside the late lamented Liberty Lunch. It was always best hoping preshow with travis, though. boy still can spin (checked him on it 11-18)!
I'm totally focused at every show I go to. especially at Cheese. they are so good at drawing you in. their jams seem like they are trying to ask a question. the universal question. I really love it when they end the songs abruptly in a different key. key? I dont know if thats the right word but you know what I mean. anyways it leaves me confused but in a carefree type of manner. I'll se alot of people shrug their shoulders and smile. I was scratching my head alot this past weekend. A head that needed to be scratched.
