Hey everybody! Im doing this thing called Hope in a Box for the homeless at my university. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what to include except the ones listed? Suggestions would be great! HOPE in a Box Deliver HOPE to the Homeless to the homeless citizens of Kentucky through December 14th. It's easy, here's how it works: 1. Fill a shoebox with personal needs items for either a man or a woman. 2. Label the box (male/female) 3. Add a note or card with your words of personal encouragement and hope. 4. Take the box to the OWL's NEST. Suggested personal needs items include the following toiletries (travel-size) and cold weather wear items: soap, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, disposable razors, toothbrush/toothpaste, lotion, white socks, a winter hat, gloves, chapstick.
i'm guessing it doesn't have to be white socks, just an idea i guess i'd add some wool socks or something
ihmurria: i have no clue about the white socks. i didnt think it mattered. good idea for the insoles. LuckyStripe:Hahaha, great pic. Absolutely glorious! Aren't there ponchots that are wrapped up in plastic envelope things or something like that? Hopefully i can find a little umbrella that would fit. Fitzy21: I was thinkin of those thermacare things too. they dont last very long but im sure it would help keep em warm and alleviate some aches and pains.
Yeah that's a good idea. Like a five dollar gift certificate to a fast food place or something. Oh tampons and pads for the females. Bandages..... And thanks... I like the picture too. Hacker is crazy.
neosporin or similar product to go with bandages... and the hand and toe warmers - in my experience, they've worked for a few hours and i was outside in -10 to -60 weather at the time. it helps
Apparently there are emergency blankets that are packaged really small but that are really as big as regular blankets.....
You can get them in the camping supply area in the store. They look like aluminum foil, we keep them in our cars in the winter.
I've made those, similarly.... not for homeless, but was asked to fill a shoebox that would be sent to someone in a 3rd world country who needed it.... Anyways, I'd think some necessities like toothpaste, a tooth brush, shampoo and a bar of soap. A couple pairs of warm socks I'm sure would also help. If it's cold where you live, I'm sure even a warm hat, scarf, and pair of gloves or mittens would be appreciated.
Wow! these are all really great ideas. The gift cetificate is a great idea! As well as the pouch and dry food. Thanks alot you guys!
