Check out this news story, probably the most bullshit that I've read all month. And in a society full of bulls, thats saying a lot. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/27/national/main2209402.shtml
That's bullshit. I am going to make several and hang them on the outside of my house. Let my neighbors complain. Some of the same people complaining right now had no problem with their kids using it as a party symbol in the eighties.
I was in the library at my school when I first read it. I got some weird looks when I pushed myself across the room (away from the computer screen) as if bee-bees were flying at me through the monitor. residents were offended by the sign and the board "will not allow signs, flags etc. that can be considered divisive." What can be LESS divisive than a peace sign? Peace brings people in disagreance TOGETHER. I cannot even begin to comprehend this society of which we have become. Some one please give me some wise words to calm me down before I stop caring all together.
I know this is just absolutely ridiculous. I'll second that. Better yet, I'll drive there around town in my tripped out 67 Volkswagon Bus. It's only 5 hours away! Satanic? Evil wreath, my ass! They'll have some fun with me.
Well, that's exactly what they want you to do-if you quit caring, then you'll be just like them. In the 60's and 70's, right-wing groups had a bumper sichker that had a peace sign, then an equals sign, then a hammer and sickle. In other words, if you're for peace, then you must be a Communist (!?!). Don't let these people get you down. As far as I'm concerned, it's the war mongers and people that hate peace that are working for the devil, not the other way around.
You are right DQVeg. And I will never quit caring, it's just hard when it seems you are the only one around you that does. Besides the good people on this site ofcourse. Since I read that article this morning, I've been reading up on the rainbow family and that sounds like a place that I need to go for a while. I just wish there was a family a wee bit closer.
The peace sign was designed by Gerald Holtrom in 1958, he was a member of the Nuclear Disarmament Campaign in the UK. However the symbol was used through out history by various groups, the Romans, Witches, Satanic groups etc. It was known as the broken cross, the satanic cross, the inverted cross, the crows foot and the witch stick. I guess this is why the people in Co. objected to the symbol. I think it was only a coincidence that the peace sign is similar to the occult sign. I doubt if it were intentional. After all it was her house and even if it were a satanic symbol she has the right to display it if she wishes. Bustramp
Just so you know, you guys are totally wrong. In Germany, the peace sign is placed on death certificates of those who are not baptised. America and very littl of Europe are basically the only places who use it as a peace symbol. It was originated thousands of years ago, the upside-down cross. The antichrist. Then the crossbeam was slanted down, the symbol of Satan (before the Pagan star became synonomous with the devil, which was entirely bullshit. It was a scam to help get the Pagans wiped out). Then they put a cross around it for nuclear disarmament. But in the end, the idea for the peace symbol was directly taken from the symbol of Lucifer. I'm very well educated on the most random stuff, haha. Nontheless, I use the symbol everywhere. I write it on everything I own, patches, flags, on my car... You know, haha. Peace(not Satan) and love ---------Earth Child
What the hell does it matter? The peace sign as we know it was created, like BusTramp said, for a peace movement. That is its intended purpose. This is AMERICA, not damn Europe.. Like the Swastika, people have never understood its purpose cuz of BS people using it. Swastika means good fortune in Hindu culture for those who don't know.
Wow, I didn't know about that. Regardless...the lady in colorado isn't supporting satan with her Christmas wreath.
Well, you know, symbols only have the meaning that we attribute to them. The swastika was actually used by a number of cultures, Indian, Chinese, Native American, before the Nazis gave it a bad reputation. For me, the peace symbol means 'peace'. And that's what it means for most people in the 21st Century. I'm a Christian, I'm for peace, and I'm not a satanist, so I'm not really worried that somebody might think that the symbol is or was connected with Satanism. Anyway, the people that are criticizing the peace symbol are really criticizing the peace MOVEMENT-if they were really against the war and in favor of peace, they could care less what the origin of the symbol was.
aww that sux. A poor person is getting shunned for what they believe all for some ignorant ppl. that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of in my life. So what if she's Anti-war , she has the right to belive and think what she wants to think. No one should take that away from her or him.
this is why we can't achive peace, people refuse to understand and get along .... people who's kids are in iraq should want peace most of all
Since the seventies there have been those on the right that have tried to prove it's some sort of satanic symbol. Just not true. http://www.designboom.com/contemporary/peace.html
today's news: HOA backed down and apologized. Now, Pagosa Springs has a peace sign ON THE WATER TOWER! the couple involved are not residents of PS, proper but a subdivision outside. PS town hall got tired of people thinking PS was against peace. Lots of the wreaths all over town, too. Power to the Peaceful!
That's rich. It just demostrates how a little bad press and possible economic damage can change the minds of those that felt so strongly in the first place that it insulted their "values", and had the right to control another person's right to free expression
