im geting tired of having my dreads down in my face all the time, so im wondering of some ways to wear your hair up, because when i put my dreads in a pony tail they stick stright out the back and i dont no why? there like really hard and just stick stright out backwards? but ya and im tired of just the tam on every day, so any other ways to put them up. There just a little longer than sholder length right now. o and if anyone knows why there so hard and can stick out like that? i dont no if thats how deads should be i dont know anyone else with dreads.

The dreads I've seen worn up usually stick out in all directions. I *think* it's normal for dreads to stick straight out and probably be hard (to a degree maybe?). I imagine they should feel like hair, but knotted hair. So softish-hard? heh bad description

I wish I could find directions to wear my hair up in cloth. I've seen it done lots and one time there was a link to a site telling how to do it on this forum but the link doesn't work anymore. I'm thinking sort of like Eryka Badu(spelling?) but I can't figure out how to do it :(

http://www.tznius.com/cgi-bin/tying.pl has lots of ways to wear up your hair, but I'm not sure if any will appeal to you as a male.

In my experience, tying it UP like that requires them to be a bit long. I'd ha my dreads for five years before I could do it really well.. I separate two to tie them with, and then bunch and sort of "fold" the rest, like and accordion, on top of my head. it takes some practice to figure out an exact method that will stay put without tugging too much and giving you a headache. If you want to cover it with a turban-like cloth, it's best to do something like this first, so it will stay where you want it, and then wrap the cloth around afterwards. Something slightly stretchy is best. Hope that helps:)

As far as the dreads sticking right our, that's fairly normal for short dreads. But just how hard are they? I'm concerned that you ma have used wax, or some other scary "dreading agent" recommended by a salon or something. If you did, wash and scrub 'till it's out!

i always put mine up in a bandana folded up. my mom says it looks like aunt jemima (sp?). i get tons of compliments on it "oh you look like a cute 50's girl" etc.
but thats probably not something you'd like since you're male.

and my hair (its to my shoulders) sticks straight out when in ponytails when at certain places on my head. the high it is, the more they lay down in random ways. if its in the middle of the back of my head, its straight out. and if its at the bottom, its just there.

also, i take random strips of hair and wrap them around my head, pulling my dreads up in random ways. no real way to tell anyone how to do it though.... it looks different each time. but i just wrap wrap wrap, and tie the two ends in a knot. then stuff any loose dreads left under the sections of the cloth.

Yeah, I do the bandanna thing as well. As it's gotten longer, though, I need much larger ones in order to actually keep the hair back and keep it from coming back up over my shoulders. (No biggie for me, though, since one of the items I make/sell is patchie bandannas w/ stash pockets!)

I remember when my dreadies were really short, I used to tie them up pigtail style all the time, and they'd stick straight out from my head. The first time I remember doing it jokingly, and so many people told me how cute I was I started doing it all the time. Alas, now I feel like a fat old hippie lady instead of a cute little young one.... :(

i meant like that. not like normal. guys in bandanas are hot. i was just meaning the way i wear them is culturally considered more feminine.

oh i just got done doing this, and im going to post a pic of my bandana action =P

Um what I did, was I got a shower cap, and made a concotion of dr bronners and water (like 2 parts bronner 1 part water). Then i massaged it into my hair and then put it in the shower cap.

Then do something for like half an hour,

i recommend Nintendo wii, or sanding some fiberglass personally =P

Then wash it out really good. I was amazed how much crap came out of my hair, and I wash my hair every day =P

Or do a nice ACV wash to as well.
