I will be in Amsterdam 12/29 through 12/31 and I am open to suggestion for places to stay an places to go. I would prefer to stay in an area that is within walking distance to the coffe shops of choice. I have Marriot points that I could use if the Marriot is close enough to the action. I would also like to meet up with others to party and see the city and of course some good smoke!! I am in my late 30's and traveling alone. I have been smoking fo years but only smoke about 1 time per month....very dry in my area. I will be arriving at 8:00 AM so I would like a place that would at least hold the luggage for me until check in. Also I would prefer a place that has net access. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE PEACE
perhaps you could tells us some more info so we can help..... what is your budget? do you prefer bars or coffeeshops? in general do you prefer peacefullness of parks or the nitty gritty of the heart of the inner city? do you require a private bathroom?
Ok let me see if I can give you guys some more info. Of course I want to visit some choice coffe shops to sample the weed...I here the Diesel is great. I want to smoke weed that gives an awesome high with good taste, but I don't want to go to sleep and waste the time in Amsterdam. I do drink so a bar to get a good beer and meet people would be good also. I want to experience the city.....which would have to include the red light district. Would also like to see the Ann Frank house...etc. The budget would be up to 200 per night..It really doesn't matter about the in room bathroom .would also like a smoke friendly place. Hope this helps you understand what I'm looking for, And thanks for the help.
200/night for your room is a very good budget, you can get a really nice hotel for under that. But if you don't care about the private bathroom (I personally do), then you can get a really cheap (but still clean) room and have lots of cash to see the city. Before you go, get yourself a good travel book and read through it (something good to do on the plane!), plan your days to see some sights--you mentioned AF house, absolutely. There are killer museums, The Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum; the HEinekin tour; get a good high on in the morning at a coffee shop and spend the day checking out one of the greatest cities to hang in. When you get tired of seeing some sights and want to chill out--go grab a coffee and toke one up. THere are tons of coffee shops in the district and around the city. You don't have to buy their weed, as long as you buy something to drink. Roll up your favorite spliff and enjoy--then--off to your next activity. What greater city is there to vacation in? None, to me. (the places I posted on my thread may interest you.
wow you only smoke once a month, yeah you will really like Amsterdam. Amsterdam is a really easy town to have fun in no matter what the budget, 200 a day will let you do whatever you want pretty much. i couldnt imagine what it would of been like if i had 200 a day when i was there; i would probly still be looking for my mind. i was there a about a week and a half and spent about a hundred euro, and i had a great time, so money shouldnt be an issue for you...the best weed i smoked in the dam was called applejack. it was this tiny little coffeeshop that we just stumbled across, i think it was called homegrown fantasy, i may be wrong though. they only had four different strains to choose from and since we had just gotten to town and were really excited to make our first legal purchase we went for the best. and damn it was good. we probably looked like fools cuz i just rolled up a straight joint (big spliffs are VERY standard in holland). we smoked it to our heads (my partner and i) and quickly became very overwhelmed by the whole (very new) experience of sittin in a coffeeshop and smoking a joint so we made a swift exit and aimlessly wondered around for HOURS. so i would definitely say my first experience with the weed there was very good and every experience after that was equally pleasing. now with your budget you should be going to different shops (maybe some research online, there are some really good coffeeshop review sites) and you should get the best stuff on the menu. you wont be disappointed. Amsterdam in my opinion is one of the very best cities IN THE WORLD to wonder around and get lost in. and gettin lost is easy, but it IS also easy to get around once you figure out the main layout of the place. it was raining and snowing on us when i was there (march). we were sleeping outside and didnt have enough money to always be going in to coffeeshops and buying things so we could hang out so we were forced to pretty much walk all over the city for a week and a half as a means to stay warm. but the city kept us very entertained, from the arcitecture to people watching, amsterdam is one of those cities that you should remind yourself to always be looking. beyond just looking i really suggest that you remember to just glance up while you are outside in the city, and look at the tops of buildings, and everything else; you will notice alot of neat things. ok other things. if you eat meat you must get a doner kabob. mmmm damn i love those things, and they are very good munchies food. never buy the weed from people in the streets, and also be aware of people that come up to you and ask if you are lost or need help. if you answer them yes they WILL help you and actually they do know they way around very well but they will ask you for a little money, but at the same time it is worth kickin them down a couple euros or somethin, definitely much better then spendin it on a shitty beer at macdonalds, or any other corporation for that matter. oh yes and i must mention the bikes. simply put: the unbelieveable amount of bike riders in amsterdam is what makes it one of the best cities in the world. BUT you better be very alert to them. i almost got hit by bikes what seems like a hundred times. they are everywhere, and damn they are brave with them too. pay attention to them, some times it seems like they dont do the same for you. and cars to, it can be confusing what a road is because of all the foot traffic too. cars are not too common in alot of places and there are so many pedestrians that it is easy to not realize you are on a road. so look out for them. yeah i just realized this was gettin really long so i guess thats enough info to get you started on. i am sure you will have an amazing time......good luck i dont know where im goin but im on my way @@@@@@@@
Are we talking about EUR or USD? 200 EUR is ok but 200 USD (=151 EUR) not so including the tickets and the hotel. Especially if you consider smoking weed, going out for drinks and also to museums (transportation? Food?). I'm just guessing here as I have never been in Amsterdam till now.
Thanks for all the info so far. I have about $200 US per night for a hotel. If the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel >> or Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel >> are close enough to everthing that I am looking for I can stay there for free because I travel so much I have enough Marriott points to pay fo 2 nights easy. So I would have more spending money. I know its hard to believe only smoking about once a month but I had quit for about 12 years (because of my job) and started again last year. Problem is it is very to come by here now. Maybe some of my fellow Virginia Hips could hel me out. I went to Vansterdam (Vancouver) last year and had a blast. It was cool but nothing like amsterdam I am sure. Thanks again....all input welcome
i can put you in touch with two guys that run a Bed n Breakfast but have a seperate apartment around the corner from the bed n breakfast. the apartment is a 2 floor apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with a great location and you could probably rent the whole thing for $200 US per night. If interested PM me.....
