I go barefoot all the time.... I think people have noticed a handful of times, but no one has ever said anything.

I've been barefoot to the cinema several times. Never had a problem.

Really, don't worry about it. You pick up all sorts of dirt from the pavements and stuff as well, but step in a puddle and it's all rinsed off. Better still, wipe your feet in a patch of wet grass and your feet will be wonderfully clean again.

And if that's not enough, have a shower when you get in.

If you tread in a piece of chewing gum, don't worry about it, it's not that unhygenic - it's not as if anything will penetrate the skin. Same with going barefoot to a toilet. Skin is waterproof, and not only is urine sterile, but it's an excellent disinfectant. In fact it was used as an effective cleaning agent in the middle ages - people used to hang dirty sheets over the privy to clean them and it would bleach them very well thanks to the ammonia content. So really you needn't worry about it. And just like everything else, it all comes of the next time you walk through some wet grass, or whatever.

Oh and it's FAR easier to get chewing gum off your foot than it would be off your shoe :)

The best thing about going barefoot to the cinema for me, is when I sit down I don't have to worry about having hot feet distracting me from the film, and I dont' have to go through the whole self-debate of "should I take my shoes off? What if the smell upsets everyone around me?"

i love being barefoot but at jerrys b-day bash i steeped on something sharp and cut the fawk outta my foot, been walking around with a sore foot and no shoes for a while. i dont know what it is about it, it hurt...... but i just kept stepping on it... like when you got a loose tooth and you cant stop wiggling it.

I went to the movies only twice barefoot. I think I got in once, and the second time, I was told, "You have to have shoes!" by some jerkoff off-duty state trooper who was working security.

You know, since Florida is such a sunny state, you wouldn't think that people would be soooo ridiculously and annoyingly insistent that people need to wear shoes. But there ya have it. I've been refused from movies, Walmart, Publix supermarket, Winn-Dixie supermarket, even Bank of America once.

I do most of my day barefoot, but lately to get into movies and the supermarket, I have to capitulate to wearing flipflops, just to please ignorant assholes who think they're more capable of making my life's decisions than I am.

I console myself with the realization that even if the floors of the movie theater and restrooms are not dangerous, they are still filthy and gross.

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

I wonder how upset establishment owners and security guards would get if they were confronted with soleless sandals and realized what they really were. It's footwear, yet the soles are bare.

It might be like the experiments that psychologists did with chimps where the chimp was given a choice between black and white and then the shades of the two choices gradually went to almost indistinguishable shades of gray. The chimps were screaming in the end.

I find that people can get extremely frustrated and upset when they realize they don't have a valid argument and they start to realize that I am out-maneuvering them intellectually.
