I've been going through my stash of yarn and notice that I've many partial balls of yarn of all sorts, tensions and colours. I've been desperately trying to find something to make with them, because I'm a packrat who hates throwing things out! So, I found a basic pattern for a shawl, and adjusted it accordingly to what I have available. It's all in 'cool' colours - blues, greens, and purples - and knit. The next one I'm going to crochet in my leftovers of warm colours - I've plenty of reds, fushias, pinks, oranges, and yellows I can make it up. Pattern for this one, in case anyone's interested: 1 pair long straight (or circular) 9mm needles (what's the US conversion???) + at least 9 different balls of yarn. Different textures and thicknesses encouraged! Cast on 136 stitches with first colour. Knit one row. Switch to second colour. *K2tog, knit rest of row.* Repeat between *'s for 4 rows. Switch to third colour; repeat between *'s for 4 more rows, and so forth until you have 2 sts or so remaining at the end, bind off. With remaining yarn, make fringe in desired length, weave through sides evenly using a crochet hook.
Ooooh! That' *so* cute I've gotta learn how to change colours first, but as soon as I do, I'm a-gonna knit that baby up thanks for sharing it. you did a great job!
thanks so much... I like the randomness in it too, sweetersappe.... It's a great way to use up my leftovers, and it's so warm because a lot of the threads I used were wool and mohair.
Agreed; I find myself much more comfortable wearing a shawl than a poncho.... I never got that whole poncho craze. Then again, ponchos don't look quite right on me, I can't quite pull that look off.... Shawls though are much easier to knit, too; I'm surprised I was able to get this one done in just a couple days.....
