For the past several years I have been actively engaged in a process of self-improvement and personal growth. I have made many changes in my life, and some of them have been drastic. But the thing with the growth process is that it is in face a process. It continues, and changes need to be maintained.

One of the things I learned is the value of letting go of attachment, not clinging to fears and desires as I was taught. As I stand now on the threshold of opening a new business, this is a very challenging thing to remember. I find myself showing signs of "hurry sickness", i have to force myself at times to remember my yoga and meditation, and catch myself making excuses not to do it. Procrastination sneaks in on the heels of anxiety.

I made a committment to change and growth, and if I am going to honor that committment, I can't allow my increased responsibility with my business to overshadow it. Indeed, the only reason why I am capable of going into business has, ultimately, been that committment.

I thought it might be easier to maintain that committment now when I have so many monkey mind "excuses" to put it off, if I reached out to see if there were others in a similar process of change, facing similar challenges. That is the reason I'm starting this thread. Please post your stories of challenging change here, offer your support for those of us who are changing, tell us what works for you, what your pitfalls are, how you avoid them, etc. How do you fit meditation and yoga into that process, and how has it carried you through the rough spots? Or just post encouragement for the rest of us to share. Thanks!

    Namaste

For people who have meditated many years during lifes crises they can easily find a center apart from changing circumstances. I know I did after Katrina kept me from my home for a month, and while I traveled and stayed in people's rooms. Meditation made all the difference for me, as far as remaining stable and unencumbered from too much worry.

Yes, let it all go and be with it without preconception. All of life stands still as soon as you do, and just feel it. It's a good description. Thanks for posting. Life is actually liberated already, just as soon as we can understand it.

That is, each of the five elements is one with ultimate pure awareness at base. If one gets back too the base of the elements where they are untrammelled then they are pure awareness, just as we are.

You may find your practice of non attachment may intensify as you start and run this business. That would be positive. Any anxiety you feel will be the trigger for that deeper practice of non attachment.

I ran a business several years ago and learnt many lessions from it. Running your own start up business can be exposing, you are in a situatuoin where the buck stops with you, there are no excuses and where you are directly and probably fully responsible for success or failure.

One big lesson for me was that both success and failure are relative. I had to let go of the need to compare my "success" with others. Finally, you run your own race with yourself.

Also, it means, as a spiritual person to grapple with the issue of money as well as guilt. To be dealing with the financial aspects frequently whilst remaining at peace. It is to help you understand spirit in matter. Guilt can come if you manage to create much profit easily. This must be let go of and a devotion to service as a result of wealth must replace it.

Yoga and meditation can still be done. I found lunchtime a good time and relax before the afternoon began.

A test will come in the form of what price for profit. Your ethics and patience may be directly tested. Be true to who you are and deal accordingly, even though others may trick or betray you.

Lastly, just do the best you can and leave the rest to karma. You are taking a big step forward in your evolution as a person, so my best wishes.

    Peace and love
