Unless it's pyrex AND YOU ARE 100% SURE that it's pyrex.

I broke a triple blown glass bong by pouring boiling water in it.

    Ouch.

I clean out with water that had just been boiling, but cooled down a wee bit. I find it works well.

I think if you just drop the glass piece in a pot of water then boil it in there it will be fine because the temperature increases gradually as opposed to going from room temp to instant boiling water... I've boiled water with my glass in it without any problems in the past. Either way, sorry for you loss...

yeah, i boil my glass pieces without any problems.

the only reason yours broke was because your shocked the glass with an extreme temperature change. you can't do that. you must gradually increase the temperature. ever notice that cold ice cracks in warm water?

^^ These last two posts are exactly what I was going to say. It's logical, but at least you learned something here, for future pieces at least.

I lost it a while ago.

The stem (which is actually paper-thin) has so far outlasted that big bong, a smaller one, and plenty of chutes and buckets.

It's new home is on top of my pail set, which is made out of an Absolut 26'er.

iso alcohol + salt is the best combo. no smell that you get from boiling a tar heavy piece and it doesnt take as long, plus it cleans it completely. ive also cleaned pipes in the dish washer with great results
