You may dig being bullshitted-I don't-This person has not only lied about who they are but has been making waves and pissin people off for no reason-I find this to be immature for a grown man and missing the whole point of being a "hippy". It;s not a lifesyle based on lies but about seeking the truth-Our Government has been feeding us many lies that led to a war-Lies are not harmless; in the case of Iraq the lies to get us into war have caused many needless deaths. If you enjoy talking to liars go for it; I don't-and niether do most other people. In the 60s we fought the lies of the Government and when the truth was revealed and the American people saw behind the coverups; the war ended. If I want to hear more lies I will turn on the Fox network I don't need to hear it here. why?
Being honest is not being nasty-myself and others are just tired of the big game-by the way-that mask is already worn by another member-
there are many ways as there are rays from the sun to be a hippie rob, salutations to your way as you so shine and bless life
I arrived in the Haight in 1974, so I suppose I only lived through the tail end of "the era," but I felt back then -- and still feel -- I belonged to something special, in both time and place. True, people had begun to scatter and go their separate ways, but I counted among my friends and lovers many GE folks. As to books about SF or the "hippie movement".....Tom Wolfe's book was certainly a zoomed-out view, but it gave a lot of us "later-baby-boomers" (those of us now in our early to mid 50's, I guess) the inspiration to seek out more....and that's not a bad thing. I've never been crazy about everything Wolfe has written, but the Acid Test was an important part of my early teenage indoctrination. Another book not too many people have read is Emmit Grogan's "Ringolevio." Grogan was one of the Diggers, and had plenty of detractors....but I read Ringolevio shortly after reading Wolfe's book, and by the time I was done I knew without a doubt I was headed for SF. I spent almost 12 years in SF, most of it as a hippie. Even today, I consider myself a SRH....Successfully Remarketed Hippie.
I am a mid fifties- aged hippiesh individual. who was born on the Eastcoast, and was called to the West coast to Oregon, by some compelling alternative lifestyle vibration, that drew me to an environment where free (out of the box) thinking, and alternative lifestyles were more readily acceptable. The initial San Francisco happening spread on the path of least resistance up the coast, and so Oregon was also a nurturing enviornment for hippie idealism to grow and bear fruit. I live in a very progressive hip town in Washington State, which is always an immense help in expanding your network and support group of other like minded individuals. I am looking forward to reading this book about Hippies, as the past, the present and the future are all worthy of wholehearted consideration.
just wanted to point out that the hippies opposition to the war wasn't enough to end it but when they started levitating the pentagon, the generals started getting nervous and so the war was ended
