I was wondering what might cause a plants buds to be unusualy light in weight? my friends had a pretty big plant that he harvested and after he was done drying it almose filled a large zip bag that should by look be atleast 3-4 ounces. he filled the bag 3/4's full and his weed only weighed about 18 grams. it was so fluffy that we could only fit about 4 grams of it on the scale at a time when we were weighing it. why did this happen. anything we can do in the future that might give us more dense buds?
idk maybe just pack it tight, but not like totally compressed. and maybe it will get denser and more ya know like compacted better
ya that what i thought but the size of this plant should of produced alot more weed. what we think is that it was either some pestiside that he had to spray on it becuase of some bugs or becuase he pointed the fan at the weed when drying it instead of above the weed. would either of those cause lighter buds?
If I am thinking the same kind of light buds as you are talking about then I doubt that a pestiside or the position of the fan would cause it. the denseness and size of the buds depend on a lot of things, the genetics play a big part. But it could also just have been the enviornment, perhaps the bugs that your friend sprayed contributed to the light buds, or it could have been the amount of light the plant was getting, or the amount of nutrients, or the heat. There are a lot of factors, I know I've had more than one light harvest, overwatering caused my first light harvest.
What kind of lights was he using? I used floros for veg and flowering in my very first grow, the buds turned out dissapointingly light and wispy, but I had ScrOGed which helped my yeild some. After switching to a 250 watt HPS I got much, much denser buds using the same soil, seeds and overall setup. The low penatration-rate of floro light keeps the buds from getting very dense, high-penatration HPS keeps them rock-hard and heavy.
