Sorry for not posting this under the existing gay marriage thread. I'm putting this here because I want more airplay. I wanted to participate sooner but there were other obligations. Most of the discussion in the existing thread is good. But stronger statements need to be made. Here they are. Better get ready for a long one. Opposition to gay marriage is the gold standard that defines The United States of America in The Twenty First Century of the Age of Civilized Mankind as a morally decrepit society. As a nation of bigots. Look at the chimpanzees in their new clothes and SUVs. They would be funny if they weren't such cruel bastards. Opposition to gay marriage is identical to the human and societal depravity that sustained racism against blacks in the first two hundred years of this nation's history. Judging a nation morally is a quantitative not just a qualitative matter. You can't condemn a whole people for just a few bad apples. But what have we here? We're talking about most of the country's elected leaders most running for office and more than half the population. When Rick Santorum and all the rest of them in Congress -- 48 Senators and most of the House of Representatives -- cast their votes for a constitutional amendment to deprive homosexuals of marriage make no mistake what you are witnessing is exactly the same thing as the pigs that stood in the doorways of the University of Mississippi forty years ago. When those sitting in sanctuaries or at home watching TV services mumble "Amen" to the evangelists' condemnation of homosexuality it's morally the same thing as a gathering of the KuKluxKlan. George W. Bush the majority of the Republican Party and many Democrats as well possess the moral stature of George Wallace of Alabama. Prior to his post shooting conversion. The best of them -- and most Americans -- are nothing more than the silent sheep that countenanced segregation and lynchings in the South. This is the same kind of degenerate complacency that has lead to genocide in some societies. They are all moral failures. Pathetic weak little things born to languish in the intellectual and moral gutters of a bigoted world. History will remember them only for their depravity and failure. Bigotry? Yes. Racism? Effectively. Why? Because of prejudice. And why prejudice? Where does prejudice come from? It comes from ignorance. You pre-judge when you don't know what's going on. The rock bottom foundation of the whole issue is that there exists not a single argument against homosexual marriage having any worth or credibility. That's the proof that this indeed constitutes bigotry of the first degree. Protect the "definition" of marriage? Give me a fucking break. Language is a dynamic and continuously evolving entity as is human society itself. Thank god or it would be a damn boring place. (Recognizing fully of course that Conservatives are too feeble to handle evolution of any kind. Pray that they should stay huddled and insulated in their respective sanctuaries mansions and -- yes -- the pathetic exploited ignorant -- hovels. Who would wish otherwise!) Even the word "gay" doesn't mean what it did a hundred years ago. Should we have a constitutional amendment to protect the definition of the word "gay"? According to present or past meaning? How do the Republicans want that one? Protect the "sanctity" of marriage? The "institution" of marriage? Then do like I said in a prior post pass a bill banning divorce. But what I want to know is about garages. You know a garage is a pretty noble thing when you think about it. I know a lot of garages that have outlasted a hell of a lot of marriages. Weren't garages originally intended to shelter cars? Shouldn't we have a constitutional amendment to protect the sanctity of garages for housing automobiles? Can't I keep the lawnmower in the garage? The rake? The broom? (Or maybe someone can think of a better analogy than this one but you get the point.) Homosexuality is not right? Actually I'm not so sure. In god's infinite wisdom he may have programmed it into our genetic makeup to promote cohesion and limit population excess. But suppose we found out that the cause of homosexuality is a random genetic mutation say like that causing albinism. Does that mean we need a constitutional amendment to keep albinos from getting married? Does that make any fucking sense? What kind of a fucking idiot do you have to be? All you have to be is a fucking ignorant bigot that's all. I hope some people can see the fucking light. Listen let's get down to brass tacks. Why don't we pass constitutional amendments to keep women and blacks from voting and working. Except work under slavery we can bring that back. Can't we please fucking go back and RESTORE these traditional American time honored institutions UND DIESES NATION MEINE DAMEN UND HERREN to the way they were originally conceived and functioned in all their pristine and sanctified Christian glory? I mean this nation was founded on Christian Principles like Slavery and Capital Punishment and hangings and lynchings and shootings and sixguns and Marlboros and War and Killing so Jesus Fucking Christ let's get on with it. Homosexuals make bad parents? Parental quality has to be determined on an individual basis not as a racist generalization. Which is exactly what we're talking about here. What we really need is a National Individual Parenthood Aptitude Acceptance Test. Indulgers in Marlboros and handguns need not apply. Maybe we could make some generalizations about child rearing though. Certainly cigarette smoking is harmful. We definitely should have a constitutional amendment banning smokers from marrying and having kids. As well as users of alcohol. And also parent wannabes who don't have college educations, or an acceptably high IQ level, or a quite high level of monetary income, or a certain athletic ability or level of physical beauty or who have any physical or other infirmity. Because kids growing up in any of those circumstances are going to be correspondingly compromised and suffer. It's a fact. Come to think of it we should ban members of certain religions from marrrying and procreating. Such as Christians. I sure wouldn't want my kid to grow up a fucking idiot and bigot and I don't feel any other kid should have to grow up in such circumstances. And believe me if you are a Christian who opposes gay marriage you ARE a bigot. Whether you want to face that fact or not YOU are one of the guilty. I realize that these criteria are rather broad. But we should at least have a constitutional marriage ban on Marlboro smoking nearsighted albino Christians who belong to the NRA and didn't graduate from Harvard. At the very fucking least. Public. religious and political opposition to gay marriage is a testament to the moral decrepitude of the American nation. The chief propagating forces of this immorality are of course Fundamentalist Chrisatanity and the Republican Party. These are the hate criminals. You know it's hate because there's no other rationale supporting their position. Actually it's primarily ignorance. They're right about one thing though. This is a MUCH bigger moral and social issue than people understand. Bigotry and ignorance destroy society. Their progeny are moral putrefaction and social death. Do revolutionary times like the sixties inspire you? Or would you rather go play with your handgun? Do you want to be a true hero and rise to humanity's highest level? Then get up off your ass and fight for human rights. The raw meat of immorality is right there right now staring you in the face waiting for you to do your historic part in helping mankind reach new levels of integrity. Oh yeah I forgot to tell you SDS stands for "Students for a Deviant Society". But if that's what it takes for us to reach the hallowed halls of morality and equality I'm all for it.
lol.. I have to say, I really like your fire. And as a bisexual, I really appreciate this post and your obvious fight for equality in any area. I hadn't quite expected to read what I did, or should I say, I hadn't expected that vigor...so I'm (almost) speechless. I just wanted to thank you for sharing. Keep on keepin' on. Peace & Much love.
SDS, I absolutely LOVE this "essay." My two cents worth, while this essay is quite excellent for this forum, and for "preaching to the choir," I hope that if you ever speak publicly, or publish any writing, that you refrain from personal religious attacks, from excessive swearing, or from ambiguous sarcasm. Its not that I don't understand, enjoy, and fully appreciate what your are saying. I just think this is very well written and stated, but because of the situations I named above, people opposing you can and will quickly discredit your argument. but, again, I love this, and thanks for posting it!
