Hey guys! so i was wondering if anyone here would like to share thier viewpoint on the causes of jealousy in relationships between men and women. i'm doing an essay for my literature class and i would love any speedy replies. They could be psychological or physical causes. thanks!
Well the obvious one would be fear. People fear that their spouse will find someone they like better.
lol is this how they teach "thinking critically" these days? I'll make sure to post my next thesis on the forums.
Well, from a biological and evolutionary standpoint, it's obvious that a man doesn't want other men getting their seed in his woman. A monogomous relationship is an investment... if you hunt for her and take care of her durrng pregnancy, what if you wasted years of your life on a baby that wasn't yours? This scared cavemen like it scares chimps and it scares us: Because it's hard wired: We want our genetic material to pass on!!! And that can't happen if she sleeps around. That's the cause of jealousy. There are no psychological "causes" in my opinion- the psychology evolved to adapt to the biology.
Jealousy is often caused by low self-esteem or insecurities. It can also happen when someone is controlling and feels as though they are losing control over the other person. The phrase "when jealousy rears its ugly head" describes it best. Jealousy is a negative emotion usually displayed in a hurtful way.
