Any other fans? What is Lemony Snicket you ask? It might have been better if you never opened this thread.
I haven't read any of his books yet but after I finish Holes I am going to start with those books. I am a substitute teacher and the kids are nuts over them in schools. I try to keep on top of all the good books that kids are reading so I can recommend them to students. Plus there are some really great childrens books out there! Are you excited about the movie?? Or worried Jim Carrey is going to ruin it for you?
I love Daniel Handler.. but I don't know if I want to read those other books. Are they really that good? I found a pin on the floor of Barnes and Noble that says "Please Don't Ask Me About Lemony Snicket." It's pretty hip and I like to wear it around. Of course, everyone asks me about it.. :-\
Lemony Snicket rules! A word which here, means he's in a class by himself. I have to admit that at first I found some of his writing mannerisms annoying. However! Shortly into the series, the things that annoyed me were making me laugh my head off! I can't wait until the next one comes out! I loved the idea and presentation of The Completely Unauthorized Autobiography!! I got it in hardcover so I can enjoy the full effect. I pity those poor people that got the paperback and missed out on the "fake" bookcover! LOL! I am not big on Jim Carey myself, but he looks REALLY good as Count Olaf from the movie stills I've seen. Can't wait for that to come out either!
I just can't reconcile myself to the idea of Jim Carrey playing Count Olaf. It seems like a contradiction in terms. I don't think I'm going to go and see the movie. Still, I love all Lemony Snicket's books. Two years ago I stood in Borders bookshop in Auckland for an hour, reading the Unauthorised Biography. That was a very good day...
I love Lemony Snicket! If I have kids I'm going to read them the books and teach them correct grammar and cool words. The illustrations are great too I still can't get my head around Jim Carey playing Count Olaf though. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised when I see it.
i can't understand how they're going to fit the first 3 books into one film... but once you see the trailer...it kind of makes a bit more sense why they chose him...i think he's playing all of count olafs theatre company too... i really like the books i've read...which is only the first two so far...and i really like how they're little hardcover ones in an old skool stylee...it's a really nice finishing touch... i'd also recommend buying the books on tape...read by lemony snicket...the way he reads it is very conversational and it just adds to the whole atmosphere... i love the little dedications in the front too...it's a bit morbid of me but they make me laugh... "to beatrice my love flew like a butterfly till death swooped down like a bat as the poet emma montana mcelroy said 'thats the end of that'" http://www.harperaudio.com/metafiles/0060566183.ram very sad of me i know...but that chapter makes me laugh...actually...just the phrase grand old time makes me laugh
Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out how they're going to do that too. Hope it's not a let down. You know, I almost bought the Carnivorous Carnival on audio because it was narrated by Tim Curry! How totally perfect is that?! Still don't have it though. Poopy. I do have all the books in print though. And I'm also geeky enough to have bought the related tin of dreary notecards that Barnes & Noble had out a few years ago. Oh yeah, and the Lemony Snicket Magic 8 Ball--that is a freakin' riot! I also love his morbid dedications.
