As I am from the UK obviously I cannot get a full political picture of the USA so I wondered if the way the BBC presented gates was fair?

The news report showed Gates being interviewed by an enquiry board about Iraq. Then it showed gates saying "yes I believe the USA is losing the war in Iraq". The reporter explained this is not in line with what Bush has been saying. Then It explained that Gates is a man who wants to tell the truth and that was his way of letting Bush know that he just wants the truth to be said. The reporter said that Gates said this because Gates has been in academia for 8 years and has no company affiliations to be thinking about their interest before the interest of the people. It said Bush is now forced to think quick and to state how he and Gates can be seen to have a unified understanding of Iraq.

Is this a fair assessment by the BBC?
On the whole my impression is therefore that Gates is a trustworthy man
Whether that is true with my limited knowledge of U.S politics I dont know.
does he have support from the people though?
what do people say about him?

As with any appointed by this administration you can safely bet he's as dirty as the day is long. His "distinguished" career includes being Director of the CIA during the Iran-Contra Affair as well as being 26 years in the Agency and serving on the National Security Council.

He's just another corrupt, career lacky for those who have been consolidating power unto themselves at the expense of "we the people" for generations.

I wouldnt trust any BBC profile of him anymore than I'd trust an American media profile. Such presentations are always whitewashed to avoid any real investigative scrutiny or indictment against such public figures.

As for what "the people" think of him, that matters not since he is an appointee not an elected official.

Oh I get it, actually yeah I remember now they did mention he was cia and as I watched I remember thinking that I am under the impression the CIA is running the USA right now.
Wasnt bushes dad a CIA man too?
I think the CIA have pulled off a military coup havent they - does it work like that?
Is there any support that what I just said might be a fair assessment?
