my boyfriends from mississippi and he's the greatest man I've ever met. Pure country boy. I live outside of washington d.c. so I had to import him and I'm glad I did :)

We met in the florida keys :)

well i'm glad you found somebody to love. :) what part of MS is he from? did he hate the mainstream culture (in other words, ignorant, earth-raping rednecks) as well?

Not only do I live in freakin' Mississippi, but I have to go to...you guessed it: Memphis, TN for good times. I spend my nights in the backyard, signalling UFOS with a lighter, hoping to be abducted.

Seriously, I am planning to move (for real, this time, and for good) early next year.

yeah i know. i don't much like it here because as you said people feel no unity or brotherhood. they think they're the image of Christ because they drive their big shiny SUVs with a "CHOOSE LIFE" tag on them to church evry sunday, but then if you're down on your luck or need to borrow somethoing for just a couple hours or if you just look or sound "funny", they will not help you with anything! the state also does nothing to conserve. so we should all try to be as nice as possible, you know, teaching through example, and in the meantime plant lots of hardwoods. maybe we can all get together sometime when we find enough people and have one kick ass gathering! yeah man!
and dude, i just got home from memphis like three hours ago! it ain't SO bad, but...I know what ya mean. lots of love to you guys! thanks

Oh, yeah...lest I forget, they're still burning crosses down here...fuxsake, man. As soon as I save up enough traveling money, I am outta here.

I know man and it's like, I just want to tell them, "Dude, you fucking lost! Just get over it for god's sake, let it go." there are confederate flags (with an inaccuarate number of stars almost every time you see one) and signs that say "the south will rise again!" rise and do what? beat their wives more?
anyway, now that i'm off that rant...where you gonna go when you move? i want to move somewhere with cooler weather, cooler local culture, and more deciduous trees.

THE ONLY WAY TO START THIS CHANGE THATS NEEDED IS TO COME TOGETHER AS A PHAMILY AND BE WARRIORS,we can either keep complaining or actually get up and make a change, for a while myself and another brother have reached out to phamily here to come together to no avail ,so now we go out and just be an example and hope the seeds of change are planted here, and everyday i meet more kids that have never heard of the phamily, but are very interested in it ,so all i can say is be an example of a true warrior

does that mean ya should stop, trust me kindness and peacefulness are never wasted, even when ya dont know it if ya walk in light and love seeds are planted slowly changes are made ,dont allways look for the quick fix, years of prejudice ,bigatry, lies, and corruption dont end over night,i mean come on this is my home but it is missinhippie were talking about, just keep striving to make a change and you will!

Hey ya'll. I just found the forum a couple of days ago. Great to see other peeps from mississippi here. It is easy to get caught up in feeling like an outsider sometimes, but actually there are alot of people in mississippi who are open minded and accepting. It can be harder to find these folks in the smaller towns, because everyone seems the same. My partners son-n-law is a farmer in the delta. If you met him on the street you would think no way that he would even listen to your ideas about life and such. But in reality, even though he might not agree, he is open to listening to people and not judging. He might even shake his head sometimes and look like your crazy, but later on he has asked me questions about previous conversations.

All this to say - keep looking for people who think like you do, but don't automatically exclude the other people. It took years but I finally realized that I was being just as judgemental sometimes. When someone would disagree with me or be rude, I would automatically be cold with them. In being cold to others, we give them the right to say look there at how she acts. I have found it better to keep on being nice and helpful. That way people can see who I really am and not have a misperception of 'my kind'.

I wonder how many people are here from mississippi? I would love to know and be able to meet ya'll.

Maybe we can set up a time and central place to have a small gathering. I would love to meet everyone. If you're ever in Jackson, go to the Rainbow Coop. They sell organic foods and health products. There's a great variety of people on there. Great cafe, High Noon as well.

greysky, i live in laurel! what part are you in? isn't the situation in this town sad? doesn't the downtown have so much wasted potential to be a cool, interesting place?
