well when the front says dairy and loctose free and i eat it only to turn the bag around and find that it says it contains an *insignificant* amount of whey??!!?!? wtf???..is that NOT? false advertisement???
that's why you take your glasses to the store. What I noticed was casien, which is the stretchy part of cheese (it's a protein).
Soy cheese..I could never forgive how bad it tasted... Main reason I shyed away from veganisim... But I think Id go back if it wasnt so expensive..
Veganism isn't expensive unless you buy a lot of the processed substitute foods. Fresh and even frozen fruits and vegetables, beans, rice, etc are usually not very expensive. I have given up on vegan cheese. If I want cheese I will just eat cheese, which is rare but sometimes if it is there already on food I will just give in. I have found that depending on how you want to use it tofu can be a good substitute for cheese. It is nothing like cheese so I am not trying to fool you or myself, but it makes a good filler. I use it on pizza and lasagna and it is nice. It fools my brain enough into not thinking they look naked. But I am weird so take it for what it is worth.
Man that sucks when products deceive you like that.. I had soy cheese once and I thought it was okay.. It was Soya Kaas.
look into the uncheese cookbook. some decent subs for when you need that comfi=ort food. and casien is milk protien.
I haven't tried a soy cheese I like yet either. The fake stuff is just too overly processed anyway... and half the fake cheeses aren't really vegan, what's up with that?!?
i dont know but i made me mad to know i wasted 10 bux on non vegan cheese that was suppose to be...at least the vegan butter really is vegan
bacaues they are not made for the vegan market but the allergy and kosher markets. some rabbintes are fine with whey or casien as an additive as it , to them, is no longer milk. I beleive I have seen one marked kosher dairy. look for "Parve" but read the label to be sure. the only mock cheese I like is Tofutti's cream cheese. I dust other dishes with nutritional yeast for that flavor. (I am lacto, I just dislike fat bombs of food)
holy crap...i just looked online for vegan cheese and found some really really good stuff and went to order it...40 bucks shipping...uh i know its two day delivery because its perishable but good gasses thats crazy!
Speaking of vegan butter.. My vegan butter has 3.5 grams of saturated fat in it.. I thought sat fat was only from animal products? I don't know if I'm just remembering that wrong or if that stuff sucks hah.
Saturated fat can come from coconut oil or palm oil. As long as it's not trans-fat and you use is sparingly you should be fine. Especially cuz you won't be getting a bunch of saturated fats from animal products...
yeah trans fat is the big nono...its like cooking your food in a big vat of melting animals..**puke**
Yeah I definitely made sure no trans fat icky! Oh yeah now I remember, saturated fat is anything solid... Okay. You would think vegan butter would be low fat though ya know? It has 11g per tablespoon.
