this jam is truly the 'steam jam'.

for those who were there, whats on tape, doesn't really capture what really happened. but for those who weren't, it is a taste. and i am just in love with it right now.

04 jams. i love them. they may screw up some of the written material, but when they let go and the jam ensued, there was nothing to stop them. i don't think Phish every improved so well. 03 and 04 saw the rise of a new sound. it got very psychedelic and loopy....alot didn't like it. they called out for 97. but 97 is gone. and those tones that Trey captured in 03/04 were untamable. mike was hotter than ever. nobody could out do mike. no one.

if you would like to listen to the Split Open and Melt from Coventry, just download file 3 of 4 on the 40 Longest Phish download. its very much a journey. if you are prepaired to rock.

Mike WAS on fire post-hiatus, specifically. He tore it up.

no Coventry was not that great, but there were moments of blinding brilliance. this jam i was feeling it. but Mike at Coventry saved the day. every time he would step up and just mind fuck us. he was not off a beat all that weekend.

I was there (thus my screen name) and yes, it was somewhat cruddy at times, but what with the rain and the knowledge it was the last show, what can one expect? That Steam Jam was interesting as they took SOAM and really morphed it into an amplified Dead-ish space-thingie.

Don't forget the vocal psychedelia that was Ghost that came afterward.

i loved that they jammed Split, because they never really have before. like Sparkle, it never really went anywhere. this time they took it to the moon and never came back....

you lucky bastard. i wanted to touch one of them so bad. i wish people had peacfully passed it around to everyone rather than tear it apart before it got 20 feet away....

def. one of the high points of coventry...unfortunately, I couldn't get tix...the whole thing seemed like one of those had-to-be-there deals...it's tough for me to get over how badly "Taste" imploded...I can just see the omnipotent Cactus' face
