I like hole in the sky, iron man, and war pigs. And for those who are going to say sabbath isnt metal, you're wrong. They were the very begining of it. Some ppl would say no but that shit is really heavy for the time.
war pigs has got to be one of the greatest songs of all time. and some of my other favorites are behind the wall of sleep, under the sun, and wicked world. but as long as its any of the original sabbath then its good.
oh, and just a little something i forgot to add from the last post. i dont think black sabbath is metal. when i think of sabbath i think darker, heavier rock and roll/blues. but i definetly believe they had major influences on metal. just with how raw their music is. from the distorted guitars to ward's drums. and theyre the only band who has all of theyre original members on my favorite musicians list. well, metallica too. exept for maybe james. hes not my favorit singer.
I love all the sabbath, how do I choose one song!!! If I have to say only one tune, I would go with Voodoo today, but tomorrow would say it was something else. I really like the first five albums, as well as the stuff with Dio. My fave of all sabbath releases is Ian Gillan singing on Born Again... those sabbath guys get some great fill ins for vocals!
You're absolutely right, they were the beginning of it,they are the gods of metal and Sabbath bloody sabbath is great song..
Of course they aren't metal. They were one of the beginnings of it and you can hear that, but it doesn't sounds like metal to me. Maybe some of the later stuff can be considered heavy metal/hard rock, like Neon knights and Heaven and hell but we're already in the eighties then when metal was around and their sound changed.
Sabbath was early metal. In order for some of you to realize this, you'll have to first come to see this... The day is Friday Febuary 13th, 1970, Black Sabbath has just released their self titled, Led Zeppelin III is still months away, The Beatles hadn't even released Let it Be, as of now. Until now, when people think of heavier stronger music, they are looking to Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, ect. None of which held the weight of what was unleashed with Black Sabbath. Sure, they're not as heavy or agressive as Deicide, or whatever, but in comparison to other music of the day, it was most definitely the metal of the time. My favorite songs? After Forever, Children of the Grave, Country Girl, Electric Funeral, Hole in the Sky.. ..Many more, but yeah, thats enough.
That doesn't really make sense. Old metal isn't real metal? That is awfully discrediting to evolution. Luxury cars in the 70's weren't the same as luxury cars in 2005, but they're still luxury cars, right?
man, i have to agree - i love gillan's work with sabbath - they had a great sound together, especially on "disturbing the priest", "trashed" and the title track....tasty!
your so funny dude, i got the funniest thought from hearing that. ok, here it is... we didnt evolve from monkeys, we are monkeys! oh wait, i think it would be monkeys are human. but whateva. its funny.
sabbath IS metal, and metal without sabbath would be different today, it it were at all. Its just a fact. and today i say my fave tune is Wheels of Confusion!
I don't see them as metal, so I never said old metal isn't metal. I see bands like Sabbath and even Deep purple and Led Zeppelin as the beginning of metal, kind of pre-metal. Just my opinion though. Exactly my point of view.
Zep is much more of a heavy blues band to me, but I do consider deep purple and black sabbath contemporaries in the 70s metal scene. Purple had an existance in the late 60s, and charted more singles than sabbath probably ever did - so I saw Sabb as a little less commercial. All of em have their heavy moments, but sabbath just keeps grinding out the riffs!
You obviously missed my point of view.. Compare sabbath to other artists of the 70s. Do you not see that they're obviously metal in their time? If we evolved from monkeys, we're obviously still a form of monkey, btw.
