my friend claims to have taken DMT.
he says that DMT is a chemical that is only released into your brain right when you're born and when you die...seems intense, and im not sure if i believe it.

Scientists has measured dmt in people's blood and urine, while they were alive and they had not taken any supplement sources of it. Sometimes if I have been sitting a long time and stand up too fast, I'll get a headrush nearly identical to smoking dmt.

If your friend has a few extra bucks, tell them to pick up a copy of the book:

DMT the Spirit Molecule by Dr. Rick Strassman.

It will answer ANY question that your friend may have. A quick reply to your post though, is: NO.
All humans produce small amounts of DMT in their brains' pineal gland from about 49 days after fetal conception until death. It is MOST prevailant however in VERY LARGE AMOUNTS during birth and death, BUT in SMALL QUANTITIES, it is the compound that is responsible for dreams during deep R.E.M sleep in ALMOST ALL humans each night. It's amazing that we all have an ability to produce a "schedule I" trypramine inside our own heads! The real joke is on the DEA, because I guess this means we're all holding! LOL. But seriously, I've found the book and Dr. Strassman's research ABSOLUTLY FACINATING!!! and i'm sure that you and your friends will too.

    Take care,
    BEN dOVER.

^ As far as Im aware most of that is just speculation, asides from rick strassmans research I dont think there has been any human studies with DMT

    ^

    Szara, 1955.

it is speculative, as dmt hasn't (yet) been shown to be produced in vivo, yet it has been shown to bind to TA receptors.

and strassman hasn't been the only one studying the effects on humans...he actually forwarded me a paper (2004) of some of the more recent research done, of low doses of dmt as an anxiolytic.

^ would you mind sending it to me? Or is it freely available? Itd be cool to see some more research done into some of the theorys in the spirit molecule, but somehow I dont think many govt. would be willing to fund someone wanting to measure levels of DMT in a 49 day old fetus pineal

Was this done with prisoners or schizophrenics? Sounds like they had some pretty bad results due to set/setting. I havent read the spirit molecule in some time so excuse me if Im getting confused with other research mentioned in there....

    pardon the hiatus.

    the publication was actually 1956:
Metabolism: St. Szara, Experientia 12,441 (1956)
