I have a lot of 10x extract and was wondering if I would be able to chew on that in a way that people do with the plain leaf quid. would it do anything, would the effects be simular, and if so, how much should i use?
While it is possible to chew extract, it won't be nearly as effective. Chewing is pretty much limited to whole leaf if you want to get your money's worth. I have tried chewing extract before, and it was rather unpleasant. You usually just end up with a bunch of ground up leaf stuck inbetween your teeth, heh heh.
Put about 1g in my mouth... didnt hold it in long though. Was hard to keep track of all those little particles of salvia concentrated in one place of my mouth... ended up gradualy swallowing it through the 20 or so minutes I had it in my mouth. Effects minimal, just a sort of mellow feeling. Anyone have any other ideas for salvia other than smoking or quid? Maybe a tea that I could make with extract?
Salvia isn't an alkaloid, so salvia tea doesn't really work. You can make a Salvia tincture though, by using the following method: Recipe for salvia peppermint elixir: Note: this extraction uses whiskey, rum, or vodka. DO NOT USE POISONOUS DENATURED ALCOHOL. Ingredients and method: powdered salvia leaf (all you can spare) in a quart Mason jar. Barely cover the powder with whisky, vodka, or rum, the higher the proof the better. Close the jar. Shake every 15 minutes for 2 hours minimum. (For stronger elixir let it sit in contact with the leaf powder for days.) Pour off the salvia / whiskey mixture, filtering it through a fine mesh spice bag (the type chefs use for Bouquet garni). Squeeze the wet powder through the bag, saving as much of the salvia saturated whiskey as possible. The whiskey (which is chemically a mixture of ethanol and water) has extracted the salvinorin A, so you now have an extract containing salvinorin. Add 1 capful of McCormick's Peppermint Extract (to make the brew both more palatable and more potent) to 1 oz. of the salvia extract. What you now have is an ethanol/water/menthol/salvinorin delivery system. The menthol in the peppermint extract probably helps transport salvinorin across the oral mucosa, thereby maximizing the amount of Salvinorin that enters your blood stream. Sweeten with a little honey or sugar. You will need to dilute the elixir with an equal volume of water just prior to use in order to avoid mouth irritation. To use, hold in your mouth and swish it around for 30 minutes. Hold as much in your mouth as you comfortably can (about 2 oz.)
i've done it with the stems that came with my extract, and it worked. i really like it. i like the taste too. you have to keep it in your mouth for a really, really long time, alternating between chewing it and just holding it in different places in your mouth... like under your tongue, or anywhere where you won't accidentally swallow it. you can mix the extract with gum, too... chew it once in a while to kind of circulate the extract, if that makes sense, and then just hold it in your mouth. the effects are like if you took the whole coming up experience that happens in a matter of seconds, and stretched it out to last an hour or so, so that you can feel it coming in layers and waves. i always feel a tingling in my legs first, that classic salvia tingle, and it moves upwards slowly... things look floaty, colorful, beautiful, but not exactly distorted... maybe a little wavy like the beginning of a mushroom trip, but everything is really clear. music sounds unbelievably amazing.
I bought a 10X extract in Amsterdam and the prescription says I have to put it under my tongue to get any effects, so I guess it will work. but i´m going to smoke it, seems a better way to ingest the powder, isn't it?
Chewing 10x would give you a mild to medium "stoney" feeling for a bit longer than smoking it would. To actually have visual experiences, just try to take as much of a bowl as you can with one hit (bongs work amazing for this) and hold it in until the smoke absorbs (roughy 30 seconds). Enjoy, it is very intense and you may not have the visuals you want the first time, but you'll enjoy what it has in store for you once you start to use it more!
Chewing salvia or eating it will not do anything, it works off heat, burning it is what releases the stuff you want, it's not like weed where you can eat it and use it in tea and get some effects. Put it in a pipe, grab a butane lighter, and go at it, it's the best way.
it does not work off heat. that is extremely wrong absorbing smoked particles - which may include a bit of vapor but most of the smoke is droplets of liquid and some solid particles too - works well because the huge total alveolar surface area of lungs is excellent for rapid chemical transfer. (can you imagine getting enough oxygen fast enough by filling your mouth or stomach - not very likely) the salvia effect requires a certain amount of salvinorin absorbed by the blood at a certain threashold rate, which is minimally around 6 micrograms per second for around 80 seconds. more than this and you will go amnesiac. longer than this is ok. you just get a longer trip. Oral absorption or any other route of mucous membrane absorption usually reaches a maximum of only 3 micrograms per second, but it can go on for hours leaving you dangling at level 2 or 3 for a long time. except for via lungs (which present a huge molecular transfer surface in an instant) salvinorin absorption rate is too low to generate the kind of effects you are likely interested in. this has nothing to do with heat. it has to do with rate of transfer and total exposed surface area. the heat idea relates to salvinorin's high vaporization temperature, the molecule is unchanged by the heat. not activated at all. vaporized salvinorin is too hot to inhale without scorching mouth and lungs. smoked salvinorin soaked leaves or cigarette paper paper includes liquid droplets of salvinorin in a smoky airstream, and the lungs are well suited to handle this. anyway to chew extract, which should work if you chew a whole gram of 10x, put it in a tea bag, and swill capfulls of vodka or tequila while chewing to encourage salvinorin from the leaves into your cheeks and throat. drink water to flush it through as much of your gut as possible, the more surface involved the more likely you will get a threashold reaction. spit out the bag after 1/2 hour. (very wasteful)
Okay, that was what I was told thats all, which is the reason I use a butane lighter, burns it better. Anyways, like I said....
If it only works by heat and chewing it won't work, then what exactly is a quid, and why is there a term for doing that? You can certainly hold the leaf in your mouth and trip; I've read that the same thing can be done with extract but that you might get an unpleasant burning sensation like if you were to hold a shot of liquor in your mouth.
