I just came out to my family as bi in Sept. I think it's safe to say, it didn't go well. i.e. I gave my mom a kiss goodnight and she swore up and down to my brother I was coming on to her. At first, they refused to believe I was bi. "But you've always liked boys," my mother said. (Errr....bi?) "How do you KNOW you're gay?" my brother asked. (How do you know you're straight, dude?) Growing up, the signs were there. You couldn't miss 'em. I filled all the stereotypical roles. You couldn't wrestle me into a dress. I hung out with the guys. I played more sports than I played with dolls. I've even been told, by my MOTHER, of all people, how masculine I am. The fact is, I still liked some guys. I have a wonderful partnewr that I've been seeing for a little over 3 months now. We knew each other before we got together, but once we found the balls to actually admit it (pun intended.), things took off. We are happy with each other and look forward to maybe one day getting married. My family is even getting more comfortable with it. Mom admitted to me, she doesn't understand it, and I respect that. So, the whole point to this long post (remember, WRITING Rainbow. I'm a journalist in training.) is for the ones newly out of the closet to NOT give up! Do what feels right to you! Embrace yourself! Don't hide it just b/c mommy and daddy said so or your church *cough, cough* says so. "To thy own self be true!" You can thank Willie Shakes for that one! WR
SO true!! Good post. I am, for those unaware, WR's partner. So I have been along for this sometimes bumpy but wonderful ride. My own mom digs it. She knows I like the chicks too. I am out at college and everyone is cool. There are some people who say "how's your guy" and I just laugh. Most I correct though! I find being totally open and easy going about it works great for me. My attitude is that it's no big deal so why should it be made to seem like one? And they tend to follow, even the very religious and older people in some of my classes. Much love
Thats good Thanks for that. Just one question. Actually two. 1) If you dont mind me asking, how old are you and 2) Is your partner male or female?
I'm 24, female and like long walks on the beach. lol j/k My partner is female and beautiful if I may be so bold? I love her so much!! -WR
