I was initiated and started to practise meditation since may. I would like to ask for advise since i am unable to ask from the teacher who taught due to distance of location. The main problem i have is trying to sit still for one hour. One day i can meditate for an hour with my mind less distracted and most of the days it keeps running faster than a horse. I tried different poses to reduce the pain in my legs and spine even sitting on the chair but it comes back after 15 mins so i have to stop. Questions : Since i am a beginner, can i just continue to meditate and stop when pain becomes unbearable and continue to meditate? By doing this, will this help me later to meditate longer ? I am told to concentrate on the space between eyebrows, when i close my eyes its complete darkness, and then changes to dark colours. When this happens what should i do? The third question is i have started to notice after meditating a couple of months, my emotions e.g. anger, hatred, outburst surfaced during meditations and in my work life. It has affected me lot. Have any of you heard or come across anyone experiencing this?
What type meditation, Zen, Yoga, Martial Arts? I ask because each discipline has a different way of coping.
Hi BEV STAR Breath - Just breath.. bring your attention to the area right below your nostrils (lip).. and just breath... Do you know about energy body? BREATH BREATH BREATH DO not entertain visions (lights), thoughts or sensations (pain)... breath... iloveyou If you feel pain and you MOVE, you are "re-acting".... The "intentions" (please pardon my verbage" of meditation is to WATCH.... do not react.. breath and watch... Meditation has NO intention. iloveyou Visions, psychic experiences, pain, fear, paranormal activity (LOL), super natural awareness, ARE all DISTRACTIONS from the LIGHT.. BREATH and go deeper.... iloveyou Welcome the pain as an honored guest... It is not you who is in PAIN.. it is only YOU who is experiencing pain.. experience IT fully and it shall pass.. iloveyou CONGRATS on your PRACTICE.... LOVE is YOU
Its yoga meditation. The teacher who taught the meditation was known as shivabalayogi. I hope this gives you more info. It consist of 45 mins of meditation. I feel i just entered a rollercoaster ride and can't stop it - the emotions and reactions. Thanks garden for words about the pain. I try to watch instead of immediately reacting and experiencing the pain. I realised i have not reached the level you mentioned garden - watching. I am aware but still react. Inspiring words. Putting it into practise is another. Thanks
Hi BEV - Imagine that you are somethig called "awareness" .. For many many years this awareness has been focused on the MIND.. this AWARENESS has been focused on the mind sooooo much, that it actually thinks it is the MIND... The MINDs WORD has become reality... The body NOW reacts to the MIND (this is dellusion) I am sad, I am hungry, That is my wife, I am Carl, I am an engineer... all false identities created by the mind... In fact, these are only experiences.. because, in fact,...I AM NOTHING EXCEPT AWRENESS. I can experience without OWNING.. I can experience sadness, happiness, beig a father etc. but I don't have to BECOME... following me..? Now imagine if you could take this Awareness and point it at something else besides the mind... (this is yoga) when you can point your awareness at the body ... the magic of "GOD" now is 100% in the body.... (YOGA)... this is also called "Runners HIGH" or "being in the zone" ... TAKING THE "I" AND POINTING IT AT THE BODY.. GIVING 100% ATTENTION TO THE BODY... THE SAME WAY YOU WOULD GIVE 100% OF YOUR ATTENTION TO A COBRA IF IT ENTERED THE ROOM AND SLITHERED ACROSS YOUR FEET. LOL This Awareness IS YOU..... We are all just Awareness (that has landed in a BODY)... and through practice we can direct this awareness to other "spaces" besides the mind... Meditation is becoming AWARE of AWARENESS BY watchig the BODY/MIND.... ENERGY BODY - is one of the SIDE EFFECTS of becoming Awareness... I can best explain ENERGY BODY as, An AWARENESS of an exact duplicate of your physical body that is PURE ENERGY. It is unclear to me wheather the ENERGY BODY is made or it already exists (which is probably irrelevant).... but it is clear to me that is part of (conscious) evolution. iloveyou
Garden, Now imagine if you could take this Awareness and point it at something else besides the mind... Refer to the above : 1) How do i continue to focus on my body that is in pain e.g. do i have to close my eyes and imagine that part - legs for e.g. and breathe slowly or keep my eyes open... 2) When i give full attention to my legs, at times the feelings like entering the pain area and then i pull myself back, can this be termed as awareness.
1. no imagination... just focus on the body.. and breath... - no reaction.. surrender... 2. this is totaly normal.. many people have pain and/or tingly feeling as awareness moves to the body... this TOO is just another distraction.. no different than THOUGHTS... simple watch... NON REACTION... all of these thoughts/sensations are demanding attention and REACTION... DO NOT REACT.. simply observe.... breath.... surrender.... iloveyou The mind will form a stories "I can't do this", this hurts" " I must becoming AWARE!" .... this is what the mind does all day... it gets information and tells stories using this information... just watch these stories and let them pass, do not entertain, feed, identify, react to these STORIES... they ar enothing more than BRAIN activity.. IT IS NOT YOU, THAT IS THINKING OR FEELING... it is you that is aware of the thinking and the feeling..
If you are having "pains" that's not normally a good sign of anything. Pain means something wrong, I know I'd get pains from meditating for a full hour at with my little experience. I normally just do it a little before bed, actually in bed with the lights out for about 5-10 minutes. It helps me calm down from the day.
You could try "breath meditation" on those days when the pain is too distracting. Either count, or simply observe, your breathing in and out as you meditate. When the pain comes, quietly and calmly get up and do the same thing while walking carefully and mindfully for five minutes or so, then go back to sitting. I have arthritis (RA) flareups that severely affect my knees, ankles and low back at times and if it weren't for walking meditation I'd have to completely skip quite a few days. When it gets really bad my hip joints swell, too, and on those days I do semi-meditation in "The Comfy Chair", i.e. my recliner. (Surprisingly that works better than you'd think, I just don't recline it so I don't get drowsy so easily) Another thing that might help (if you aren't already doing it) is to carefully stretch before meditation. I've tried the stretches on Ana Brett's Beginner's Kundalini video, and they really help my low back. Of course, that adds about 20 minutes to the "workout", but it's all good.
