The Cross of St. Patrick is the diagonal white, overlain by the Cross of St. Andrew in Red. One could say that Ireland is included. The St. George is the straitght up and down cross. The flag is the physical representation of The Three Kingdoms of the British Isles. and no there is no Griffyn on the flag. Loved Gerri Haliwell in that dress tho !
New Labour are the new Conservatives, so definately no red there anymore. then again, david cameron is changing the Tories into New New Labour, so there's not much blue over in their camp either.
just wondering why rep. ireland should be in the union jack, as their not in the united kingdom. any idea how the welsh flag could be put into make it look decent?
I perfer separate flags for scotland, england and wales. We should be able to choose whether to call ourselfs Brittish, scottish, english, welsh, Northern irish or in Ghost's case, cornish...
Growing up living in America, I was always fascinated with the Union Jack but then as an American I think I'm just obsessed with flags in general. But since I moved here I've hardly seen one and I really like not seeing them so much. I'm sure the next time I go back to the states I'll be a bit overwhelmed with the amount of flags (and churches) that I see. And I notice that a lot of my American friends back home are a bit more flag obsessive as well... I think it's a great design though.
i don't think they should destroy the union jack... couldn't they make clothes out of all the flags for the homeless?
The union jack/flag/whatever is stupid. Its not a flag of people united, so why bother? Get rid, its outdated. Im European and it means nothing to me Even with wales etc added, itd be meaningless. Britain is a tiny, pissy little island. When will we learn that? We can still have our identity and be part of something bigger. So down with this union pants and up with the stars!
Its bad enough having such a meaningless label anyway, but when you insist on it being SO catagoric, specific and small it makes you look incredibly small-minded and closed off from the world at large England is such a tiny little area...why on Earth would you want to claim you "are" of such smallness? Besides, what does "English" actually mean? Nothing at all. How is an "English" person different to a "Scotish" person? Oh dear its all getting so very unnecessarily nitty-gritty, and the smaller we scale these things the more and more we alienate the rest of the world, which is vast
