Sorry. I won't spout a bunch of advise at you because I know you have a pretty good idea what you're doing. If you don't mind a little grooming, as opposed to going TOTALLY natural, maybe a friend could work on it for you? Am I correct in remembering you're from Philly? If so, Philly family is quite active. In fact, maybe if you hit up whatever drum-circle activity or whatever goes on locally in the winter, you could find a dreadie cat to help you out! Most important thing to remember though, is PATIENCE! It's not the destination; it's the ride!
I tihnk I saw some pics that you psoted a while back. Your hair was really not very long at all if I'm thinking of the same pics. If I'm right jsut give your hair some time to grow out and get to a moderate length.

Yeah you guys are right haha I actually wash my hair every two days... I washed it last night they feel better I think it's cause they were wet but the loose hair is driving me madd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHA gotta learn to love it...
It's a lot easier for the hair to tangle when it's been exposed for sun and salt for several years... be evil to it and it will tangle eventually i think
