i think if everyone, or even just a lot more of us, realized what they were screwing themselves out of by trying to impress each other, i doubt very much there would be wars, or even 99.999% of all the causes of suffering and harm. =^^= .../\...
Themnax.. That's a very good statement..as usual..your postings.. go to the core of the matter..i don't know...if wars can be avoided.. one thing is for sure..it's all about prestige,greed,envy,jealousy.. a revolution..will never be a bed of roses..it will always stay.. a constant struggle between the past...and the future.. Tiger
aside from all those other reasons people like to kill each other, it would still be handy if people weren't trying to be something they shouldn't.
I'd still be in debt. I don't think I've ever bought something trying to impress someone else...impressing myslef is hard enough!
I'm guilty for trying to impress someone other than myself. I wish I could just say fuck it and not think twice about it.
I do wear my slippers to the bus stop. They are moccasin slippers with soles. The one father comment this morning on how he liked them and he wanted to find a pair like them. I also wear my pajamas out to get the paper.
I set out to try and impress others I often fail but in that failure, I better myself and I learn from my mistakes. Hotwater
but to impress others gives stature to ourselves..........so to not impress others in many a person, diminishes who they perceive themselves to be. What they wish to be seen. Not who they are but who they perceive and wish other to perceive them to be. A paradox and one that will not end. Mirrors are a dreadful thing.
I'm not out to impress anybody, thats for sure. I just stay here in my own little world, locked behind the four walls of my bedroom on this awesome little machine. I do escape occasionally into other dimension's on my computer into the universe of cyberspace, Hip forums is a frequented place, but to impress others or try to make myself out to be better than others is simply not me.
Life is about competition and competing against one another to see whose the smartest, the fastest, the strongest. The day we stop trying to impress each other is the day we stop caring. Hotwater
The day we stop competing and accept just who and what we are, we stop caring about what others think of us.......that is more important. Life is not about competition, it is about being the best "we" are, that is not competition, that is knowing us. There is no competition in self, only realization of what self is. It has nothing to do with other than self and the reality of knowing who self is and accepting that.
People are always competitive to some degree. Whether is be looking the best, being the smartest...or even appearing more moralistic. Not admitting our own weakness and speaking out on others while pretending to be perfect ourselves is in a way tearing people down by making them feel that their thoughts are wrong and selfish because others fear admitting to weak human behavior. Pretending to be perfect while preaching to others is in a way competing for the hightest moral ground, thus caring what others thing. We all have our weaknesses- thatmakes us human, admitting them in order to empathize with others is what makes us humanistic. hugs
Perhaps I have slightly higher aspirations for the human race than to simply except the status quo, to simply accept who we are, and what we are, without at least attempting to improve the model:H Hotwater
to try to improve another's so called model is an error as there is not right of passage nor is it grounded and it is ego. To improve a model to your own thought is ego rather than what a person who is living will find on their own. It is not status quo, it is accepting that people are who exactly who they are at any given space in time on their own path. Not yours or mine to prod but their own to grow into.
You still don't get it It's not about accepting who we are, it's about shooting for the stars Hotwater
I agree Heat, very well said. lynsey has some good points there too on our weaknesses, none of us are perfect that is for sure.
