if anyone has any kind of cosmic awareness while on the stuff, why not then try to incorporate tripping as a kind of sacred event? I did that once, started to feel everything I'd experienced in my life from a third person POV into 1st person and back so forth, though I really hadn't taken enough... all other times I was too impulsive and had fun, but nothing truly amazing like that.

Anyone else try this or similar? I heard that's how acid was used in the sixties in many circles... opinions? comments?

I suppose it still is used in that way...maybe not as commonly as was in the 60's-70's, but people still do it, even if it's on a smaller scale.

I think of psychedelics as sacrements... which is always fun when I try to explain the validity of tripping/mind expansion to friends and family. In perticular, naturaly occuring hallucinogens are in my opinoin "sacred" and the true gift from "god" to the human race. I think "god/eternal cosmic spirit" would have to be one sick son of a bitch to engineer the existance of 1000s of these plants that happen to have this effect in human beings for it to all be for absoultly no reason... yea right U.S. GOV, nice try, I hope we don't look that stupid...

Man's agreement (covenant) with god in the bible is refering to this type of exchange...

Man-made or manupulated psychedelics have their purpose too because they important in helping man discover our "purpose" which is of course that we have none... I love'em, however I don't consider man-mades sacrements (yes that means LSD)...

... my own brand of psychedelic existientialism, if you will... humans are burdened by the universe no more than cattle grazing in a field are. In other words, humans have no more obligation to complete or 'do' anything than a cow does... the only thing that truly seperates us in terms of cosmic "rank" is that our baseline consciousness is drasticly higher than that of a cow. A mans body is "designed" to house our advanced consciouness as a cow's physical form is ment to house the consciousness it has...

Thus, the most pure and direct route with that spirit (god, or whatever) is to allow yourself to take an entire day and sit in a field with friends music and lots and lots of SACRAMENTS. The bigger these gatherings of people with 'hightened consciousness' the better and more alive the gathering becomes...Think, WOODSTOCK 69, for example (what percentage of the crowd was tripping?)...

oh right on I want to party with that kid......I don't think enough people understand the trancendential value of a good psychedelic.
After reading some Leary and McKenna my belief has come to be that our species is just an extension of the ape family that has acquired bipedalism and thus developed a much larger brain that we are still growing into and learning how to use up to its full potential and each time we take any sort of hallucinagen (sp?) whether it be pot, mushrooms, dmt, acid, or whatever.....we are slowly unfolding the unknown potentials of our brain.......just my thought.....its ever changing

It didn't take long for me to start thinking of phychedelics as sacraments instead of toys. I tripped a few times in high school and it was just for fun. Then, after a few years of sobriety I discovered acid again. The first trip I took when I rediscovered it was when I was almost 19 and that is the trip that changed the way I looked at acid and psychedelics in general. Over the next 2 years I tripped oh...probably about 100 times. And every time I thought of it as my sacrament. I used it like a tool to learn more about myself, the nature of life and reality, and God. And I tell you....it saved my life. I was horribly depressed for years, but acid taught me a lot and it saved me from that dark pit of depression. Without it I would not be the person I am today and so I am thankful that I had the opportunity to use it so many times. After a while though I started feeling like I'd gotten the message and I don't feel a need to use it anymore. I have discovered that the psychedelic state of awareness can be achieved through other ways...through meditation and even through love. But acid was my sacrament for a few years and it opened my eyes. :)

Ya hallucinagens are sacraments for me too. Pretty much all substances I use as sacraments except alcohol. But hallucinagens have a much larger impact than any other for me. What do you guys think about Mckenna's theory that mushrooms played a big role in evolution of apes to humans, giving them religious incite and a conscience.

When you guys trip with friends that you know real well can you pretty much feel the energy between them. Sometimes I get this feeling that theres an invisible chain linking a friend of mine and I can read their mind real well and almost feel the energy going from my brain to his. It's almost unexplainable, but I would say I have good intuition on most things in life and this just enhances that attribute in me so much more.

I use it recreationally too, because simply put, it can give you some of the most fun and unforgettable experiences of your life. But I also value it as a tool of evolving my own mind and making me a better person overall. Try to tell that to someone who doesn't use drugs and they look at you like a wacko. But like Hunter says in Fear and Loathing when the dude walks in the bathroom, while him and some other dude are licking acid off his sleeve. "With a bit of luck, his life was ruined forever. Always thinking that just behind some narrow door in all of his favorite bars, men in red woolen shirts are getting incredible kicks from things he'll never know."
But I guess it just means that some people aren't destined to experience for certain reasons unknown.

    I'll stop babbling now.

LSD is such a mind-altering substance that I would consider it to be a sacrament, whether you're a deep-woods American Christian-ite, or a practicioner of Majick. ;)

LSD has actually opened my eyes to an entire new philsophy on life, and has awakened my understandings to the concepts of Creationism.

Problem is, can a sacrament be used by an Athiest? If so, could the experience truely be classified as a ritual?

The Original Kleptonian Neo-American Church, founded in 1964, at Millbrook N.Y., on the same estate that Timothy Leary held forth, has been championing the cause of the psychedelic sacraments from its' start. Peyote is the sacrament of the Native American Church. Psychedelics have been used for thousands of years to expand consciousness. I have been involved with the O.K. Neo-A Church for 24 years and believe that not only are psychedelics sacraments, but also that the psychedelic religion is presently being practised by millions worldwide. And in the battle of the mind, the pill is mightier than the sword. Everyone has the right to use these sacraments, without the interference of anyone.
For those that might be interested in learning more about the Church, as distinguished from the religion, they can find out more by looking it up on the internet. Personally, it has helped me understand what is going on when going up on a big one (at least 500 mcgs.). Bon Voyage!
