every month when i get my period i turn into a mindless drone. i can't think, i can't remember anything, i can barely speak. putting together a whole sentence is so extremely difficult, and half my vocabulary went the way of the dodo. critical thinking and rationality are gone. my emotional state and my mind go into such a degeneration that i don't even feel like myself. my brain is sludged up and it's so incredibly frustrating. has anyone experienced this? and if you have, have you found ways to combat it?

Oh yeah, I've gone through that. Haven't since I started the pill, but beforehand it was a pretty normal thing. I used to just make sure I got tons of rest, didn't do anything I didn't have to, and always had my coffee in the morning. I used to do a lot of yoga too, which also helped, becuase it would help focus my mind and give me energy to keep going. Not complete cures by any measure, but they certainly helped, and over the years that's the best I ever came up with...

Hope that helps at least a little... Sorry I don't have a miracle cure!

I've experienced that KC, and still do, all the time. I think it is simply hormones, and the body's cry for us to slow down and become introspective for a bit. Of course, I know you've got 2 young daughters, and slowing down may not be an option! I think, for myself, though that during my period, my mind kind of goes into an altered state. If i can take the time to focus on that, some of my best intuitions and insights come at that time.

    Hope this helps!! :)

i hvae to confess, i was hoping for some miraculous tea or something. lol. thanks for the advice, though. i have a tendency to go REALLY dark and disturbing at this time. i'd rather not thing i was being more insightful. i'm praying for hormonal paranoia.

we each have something that rejuvinates us, sometimes more than one thing. It oculd be painting or being with friends, being alone or baking for people. Could be sewing or excersizing or beating someone up. There are a myriad of things out there, the real trick is in finding what works for you in particular.

when I'mf eeling really down and disorganized, going out with a friend with whom I can vent really helps. But when i'm down, sometimes I'm unbelievably chatty, i just need tog et it all out of me so I can deal with life again.

Raspberry leaf tea. Other than that, best wishes to you. Sometimes being a woman is just plain rough. :)

Yogi Tea makes a whole line for women... I drink Organic Woman’s Dong Quai Tonic every month around that time-Dong Quai, shown to be effective in supporting the reproductive organs, addressing common female hormone imbalances, helping to regulate the menstrual cycle and building all-around health. They also have one called Moon Cycle which actually has dong quai in it and a bunch of other stuff including Chaste Tree Berry which is supposed to be effective in reducing symptoms of PMS, Organic Raspberry Leaf To calm hormonal influences and purify the skin and blood,Juniper Berry and Organic Parsley Leaf to help ease water retention and promote mineral and hormonal steadiness, and Organic Chamomile Flower to relax the mind and comforts the body. I happen to like the Moon Cycle the best flavor wise and also it's kind of an all around thing too my second favorite is Dong Quai. They also have Rasberry leaf, but I dont' like the taste of this one too much. Here's a link to their site http://www.yogitea.com/Organic-Tea/Tea.asp?Tea_ID=WT02 you can ask for free samples and click on the Especially for Women option when filling out the info. Hope it helps a bit... really for me I'm not sure that it is the ingredients as much as a hot cup of tea, my mom used to make me hot tea when I was feeling anykind of down or sick or just plain tired.

I have mental exhaustion frequently enough to be quite pissed by it. I forget things a lot too when this happens. It sucks. I have yet to find some kind of cure or something.

High potency multiple vitamins that are high in B vitamins. I wouldn't be able to do anything without them. B Vitamins are absolutely necessary for the nervous system to work properly. They make absolutely a world of difference in the way I feel.

B vitamins really do help boost the energy level. When I took them my nails grew faster too.

Do you take a multivitamin with iron? Your body maybe lacking iron around that time.
