Hello Everyone, I got my puppy Cloey about 7 months ago ... she loves the outdoors .. she loves rolling around in the grass, running around are huge yard, running around with our other dog Jack . She just loves the out doors and thats great because I do aswell. I really enjoy going camping. One day I was on this one site and they had doggie tents soo I was thinking about some day taking her camping ... but Iam not sure if thats a good idea so I figured to make a thread asking you guys ... do you take your dog camping? What do you bring on your adventures? What do you guys do for fun when you go camping with your dog/pup? Why do you or dont you camp with your pooch? Does your dog sleep in your tent or does he/she have there own tent?
And if you have any other advice for us fellow campers that want to camp with there pup/dog please feel free.
Please have kind advice, and keep your comments kind tords eachother :)

I really Appreciate the advice !!
    Peace<3
    Katy

I never want to leave my puppy home, or be away from her for too long, so I always take her with me when I can. Camping with your dog is a great idea! Just make sure that you are not breaking any rules...some sites require notification that a pet will be staying and others have leash rules, etc. I would keep her in the same tent that you are sleeping in...its just cozier with them next to you and safer. You can find alot of great outdoor/hiking/camping equipment for dogs at the local pet stores and online...toys for the water, games, reflective vest, portable waterers, etc. Since our puppy Lucy is an English Bulldog, she can't hike that far, so we have a toddler pack that we carry her in when she is too tired to walk. We bring her own sleeping bag, teddy bear and pillow to sleep in and pack her meals in individual Tupperware-type containers that keeps the food fresh and serve as serving bowls as well. A must have is a doggie first aid kit...a solution to wash out minor cuts, some sterile dressing, Vetrap, tweezers, a knife, splinting materials, etc. Paw boots are also a good idea if you are going to be on uneven, rocky ground or playing hard on rough surfaces.

    Have fun!!!!

I take the our beagle mix camping with us all of the time. We have a really large tent because she has to sleep in an extra large carrier at night while we are camping. she is a chewer and we would have to kennel her so we don't wake to a hole in the side of the tent and Bella gone, but she to has her own sleeping bag, her stuffed animal baby her water bottle and food the kennel stays right next to my sleeping bag. I put my hand in here kennel with her. We keep a doggie first aid kit. We take her swimming in the lake and we hike together. We pack her dry food in a large ziplock bag. She also eats a bit of what we have also. On our hikes I have a water bowl that colapses and one that hooks to a water bottle.

I always take my dogs (usually 3-6) with me camping, including gatherings. They key is respect for others. My dogs are leashed, and those that are not are under 100% bombproof verbal control. All of them get off leash play time in isolated areas, but not where others who may fear or dislike them are around. I pick up their shit unless it's way off in the woods where people do not walk or go. I bring plenty of water, a first aid kit, crates (so they can be safely confined without having to be tied up, etc) and I don't let them bark or bother others. They are always a welcome addition to gatherings/camping trips. I think that's the most important thing! Be a responsible dog owner and show others that dogs can be a pleasure in public places!

Our dogs always went with us. We spent two summers in a horse-drawn gypsy wagon when the kids were young and the dogs loved it. They rode in the wagon when we travelled, or walked on leash with the kids and in safe places were allowed to run free. Never had any bother at stopping places, just obeyed the rules regarding livestock etc. Got on great with Dolly the horse too. Good days!

I take my dog milo with me sometimes, he loves running around with the other dogs there and i swear he will make a pack one day and just bugger off lol, anyways ....
Let your dog sleep in your tent as she will feel safer, warmer, happier
As for things you can do with her play, let her be a dog for a few days, go exploring with her off the lead and see where she ends up, as long as she knows to come back and there isnt any road let her be free, its always good to take a blanket that smells of home with you, plenty of food - feed her more than normal because she will have to regulate her body temp more and proberly wont sleep as much as what she does at home, take a few toys and literally let the world pass you by x and have fun

My dogs always come with us when we're gone for more than a few hours. If we're doing the tent thing, they come with us. Most of the time we sleep in the van, and they cuddle there as well. They like to be a part of the adventure, and I like the advance warning of their good ears and loud barks if someone is ever near our setup.

After we left Oregon and before we settle here in Tennessee, we were actually on the road for practically a year with all our possessions in an Astro van, towing a little trailer behind. We had both our dogs AND both our cats with us - lemme tell you it was an adventure. But all four of them knew what was going on, and they were angels the whole damn time. :) Have fun with your dog - just be sure to socialize and train her properly!

I work with guys that have hunting dogs. A lot of other dog owners in my area keep their dogs outside most of the time. I don't see any problem with you taking your dog camping. Both of you might greatly enjoy it.

Our Beagle was a sofa puppy but thouroughly enjoyed wilderness camping.

It was hard to get the old girl to relax, bein in the woods with all those intriguing smells and sounds. She was on patrol. Walking around & around the site.

She ate plenty though. and enjoyed sleeping in the tent with her compadres.

When we all got home she crashed for two days. A good time.

    :)
