Imagine stumbling upon $24,000 cash. What would you do with the money?

The untraceable wad of $100 bills, rubber-banded together inside a zippered bank pouch, tumbled unnoticed from the purse of RoseMarie Limoncelli, 39, as she sat Friday inside the AMC Fantasy theater in Rockville Centre.

Christopher Montgomery, 19, found the money as he was cleaning between seats.
The Lynbrook student returned it. Every dollar.

I would probably take it all, to be completley honest. As long as I was sure no one was watching me, I would grab that cash and be out of there in a flash. Then I would go and hide most of it, take about $5,000 with me and go buy a bottle of Morphine, a case of beer, a bag of some fine herbs, a bottle or two of whiskey, and hide them all, then go buy some new clothes, some Lacoste sneakers in white/green and then hit center city all jacked up and meet some cool girls. Then after that, I would buy my son a whole bunch of stuff, get myself another used car, and get my own house on rent without my cousin living in it and go back to being normal again

If I stumbled upon $24,000 I'd return it. I mean, that's a lot of jack for someone to lose, imagine how it could possibly affect the person who lost it. You never know what they might have had it for.

Plus I'm a firm believer in karma. I wouldn't want something like that coming back to bite me in the butt. ;)

Yea I believe somewhat in what goes around comes around, but I also am tired of slaving my life away at work only to be flat broke every day of my life and not be able to save any money, and never having time to spend with my son :( So more than likely, and I am just being honest here please dont think of me as a jerk and a thief, but yea I would probably take it all :(

I don't think any less of you RELAYER. It's not my place to judge! Sure, I won't deny that it would be great to find money with no strings attached, but, like they always say, "there's no such thing as a free lunch".

    Man, I'm getting old, aren't I?! [IMG]

Hmn... it would be tempting to keep it, but I think it would just drive me crazy if I tried. XD I would obsess and worry about bad things happening.

How do you KNOW that it's untraceable? For all anyone knows, this is money from a "drop" and your family is going to get killed over it or money from a theft that has the serial numbers recorded...I would turn it in.

or you could stash it somewhere for several months until everyone forgets about it, then deposit into your account in small portions.

I would have taken it to a casino, put it all on black. If I won, she gets her money back. :)

Good person, the money should be returned. I would deffinately return the money. However I would have to say 24,000 in cash, sounds like more than likely it was stolen, most people in there right mind wouldn't even carry that kind of money around with them, it would be in a bank. I wouldn't feel like a decent person at all keeping it, I couldn't do that to someone else. I would think to myself, how would i feel if i accedently lost a bunch of money and someone stole it from me? Not good.

well, i once found an ipod worth nearly 300 dollars. still have it.

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...USP4778341&esvadt=999999-0-53907-1&esvid=1995

i found it in the snow on OSU campus when i was pretty inebriated, but i figured i should hold onto it since nobody was around.

and i actually did try to get it back to the owner. i called customer support for apple and read them the serial number to see if it was registered with the owner, and authorized apple to contact the owner and give them my email address so they could contact me if they wanted it returned. this was about a year or so ago.

they never called. must have already had it replaced by warranty or something, or gotten a new one, or were never properly contacted by apple. needless to say, apple cannot give me the owners contact information over the phone for personal privacy reasons.

giving it back is essentially like finding three hundred bucks and returning it all. thats about a week's pay for me, before everything thats taken out.

however an ipod is a toy, albeit an expensive one, just another bullshit piece of computerized junk that my life is no better with. its cool, its fun, but its just a thing. i wouldnt miss it if i didnt have it or never found it.

finding 24 thousand dollar in cash is far, far more tempting.

it is also far more damaging for someone if they lose it.

now i dont know what kind of person has that much in cash in their pockets....ever.....but it would seem they're either crooks or filthy fucking rich.......but who's to say? it could be someones livelihood. i couldn't keep it if i knew there was a way of getting it back to the person. i'd feel obligated to return it as an act of basic decency.

but if i found the cash in a regular old manilla envelope with no information attached.....would i turn it in to the police station to see if someone claims it? HELL NO!

i'll try and do the right thing, even go out of my way for it in certain circumstances, but if its essentially unaccounted for and i dont seriously believe theres a chance i could get this back to the owner, i wouldnt even try.

i'd $2000 for myself and give the back rest. i think thats a decent reward for returning that amount of money. i don't think that would be too much to take for someone carrying around $24000 like pocket change

Who honestly walks around with that kind of money and then forgets/ looses it?

I would probebly just take it and donate it to a charity I like, I am sure that they will take better care of it and use it wisely.

it all depends ont he situation.

if I know who lost it or the bag is marked or what not, sure, I would return it
but I wouldn't go about looking for the owner

I'd like to say that I would turn it in, but if it really happened, and I had that much money in my hands.... I dont know. It would be hard!
