Hi everyone. My name's Rhys, I live in Australia. My mother is Dutch, she came out to Australia as a migrant after the war. The reason I'm here is to ask if someone may be able to help me find some music suitable for a cd Id like to make my mum for Christmas. I don't know any dutch artists from the war period and I thought maybe some of you might. Any other European artists or songs that were well known durring the war such as Marlene Dietrich or Edith Piaf would also be helpful but Id really like to find some dutch songs and artists too please. Thanks very much for any help.
I know some old artists but i don't know if they are from the 40s, if i think about old-fashioned dutch music i think about artists like sjonnie jordaan and zangeres zonder naam
During the war there was hardly any dutch music available because the germans confiscated radio's and closed down radio-stations...many people hid their radio from the nazi's but they could only listen to "Radio Oranje" which was broadcasting from England with mainly english music like Bing Crosby,Andrew Sisters,Glenn Miller and ofcourse Vera Lynn. Eddy Cristiani,Willy Alberti ,Johny Hoes,Willy Walden and other artists did record some music during that period but it was pressed on 78 rpm vinyl and will be very hard to find on cd.
