I wanted to go last year but we would've been coming from the Rainbow Gathering with our dog, and they don't allow dogs. It really bummed me out, seems like the fair has sold out & become much more strict in the last 5 years or so.

Anyone know if they enforce the no dogs rule heavily & if there are any nearby campgrounds that do allow my canine kid? :)

Meh. I went religiously as a kid, and all through my teenage years. Thought it was the grooviest thing ever. Then I worked there and had a chance to see what it's really all about. It's a private club - snobby hippie-crites. The fun from the inside is all about watching other people get left out of it. It was cool for what it was, 30 years ago. But it's way played out by now, if you ask me.

Now that I'm all growed up and I've been around/seen more fests of the same sort, etc. I think the newer, smaller ones are where it's at. You can achieve that community, and get that same awesome feeling, but without the separation and the snobbery. It's partly because it isn't separated into "those born into it" and "the others, who pay for this party", and partly because years of infiltration by the DEA and paranoia haven't soiled newer fests yet.

    ...Just my 2 cents. :)

I have been going to the fair since 2000. A lot of people say that the fair is not what it used to be 30 years ago or 5 years ago or whatever. That is true of most everything. Things change. We have to live in the now and using our power of intention create the future as we want it. The fair is what you make of it. It can be many things to many people. To you, it rocks. That is the spirit and enthusiasm that will keep the fair special. Personally I enjoy camping at Darling's because it is fairlike and smaller scaled about as much as I enjoy the fair proper. But we are still all a fair family. Namaste, Robert
