I've liked dreads for a long time, and I've just decided to get them. I'm thinking the way I want to do it, is just never do anything to my hair (except wash it) and then when little dreads start to form, rip them apart. Right now my hair is down to my belly button, I was wondering if this would work, or if i should back-comb
what to do depends on the results you hope to acheive. ripping dreads apart is not easy, and it hurts. If you want them somewhat uniform, I'd start by separating them into little ponytails and then backcombing or better yet, use the twist-n-rip method instead then use beads or rubber bands to keep them separated until they start knotting up. Backcombing such long hair would take ages to accomplish, and you'd need to enlist a friend's help with it.
Actually it doesnt need to take such long time. I had hair that long and it took about 4 hours backcombing by myself. But go natural! They look the wildest.
well so far (not doing anything but ripping them apart) its going good, my hair gets VERY tangly, if i dont comb it at the end of and beggining of every day i have tangles so think i cant put my fingers through, its only been a week so far, but i can already tell where they dreads will be.
My hair is only a bit past my shoulders and it took 11 hours of straight backcombing to do mine. And in the end, they were sooo loose, I just took the rubberbands out and they weren't even barely knotted. But yea, post some pics. I'd definantly backcomb...less painful.
