There's a very fine line between humor and disrespect...I simply feel these jokes are in poor taste, especially on a "hippy" website...true hippies love people, not make fun of them. So, I guess we see the difference in all of us, don't we? I will make one exception, the antics of most teenagers are humorous, and they haven't walked Mother Earth long enough to have earned the respect that our elders have!
Does that mean that hippies can't quote Twain on congress. "Hanging them might be amusing and could do no possible harm." "the only defined criminal class in America." How about "Regan's alshimer's explained a lot." Not even Nixon?
Geez - mike a bit taken out of context - you are talking specifics and sarcastic and black humor - the others were speaking in generalities and to generalize ....all fucking white people deserve to go to hell - now that just don't feel right aye ? Bout the same as saying all elderly should be delegated to a place of not being seen or heard because they are so annoying. Don't know if you can see the difference - but to me there's a big abyss of difference. To thine own Self be True - AND ye hurt none Blessings Be along your Way - Ahh the lessons Learned Namaste (my spirit bows to your spirit)
Permission to be "mean" to politicians implies permission to be "mean" to others. The position I was advocating is that speakers should be aware of the possible sensibilites of their audience and equaly that listeners should be aware that humor exists. "It was a joke" doesn't make things less offensive. "I'm offended" doesn't limit joking. ALL rules should be forbidden. (Including this one.)
While I don't have a problem with making fun of the elderly, I suppose it does appear a bit hypocritical when we make light of their circumstances, considering the fact that if we were asked to describe God, we'd probably picture him as an old wisened man with white hair. Hotwater
Crikey you just dont get it do you? All the isms - ageism - sexism - racism - ismismismism are all old hat and over ! There is only common sense now and theres a big difference between saying "kill the bastards" and "I know lets superglue them to a yak called 'ted'" theres also a big difference between joking and not joking all this political correctness is so right wing these days - the fact is that the political spectrum has changed and its ok to joke again - know what I mean Germain Greer and all those other luvvies had their day a long time ago all the politically correct movement died out about 2 years ago nowadays theres just common sense based on the rubble of that whole liberal fascism we CAN and WILL joke again dictating the terms of what can and cannot be said is too beyond common sense. The politically correct was supposed to be left wing but ended up somewhere in mid europe 1939 - er germany to be exact
What's that old line ... "As you are now so was I once , as I am now so too shall you be " There was a time when old people were respected and appreciated . Revered for their wisdom and knowledge . But in this selfish sick world we live in now , they are just seen as a burden and nuisance . It's easier to stick em in some horrible old folks home , to not have to deal with them . Yet they don't mind dividing up their material possessions and monies while they are still alive , just waiting like vultures to swoop in and plunder their things . It's sad people have become such pieces of shit ! Just another sign of a society on the verge of collapse .
I find younger people annoying. They talk way too much and most of what they say is garbage. Most are desparate to get noticed, this often makes them laugh purposely too loud in public, say stupid things or purposely throw a swear word into every sentence when they're riding the bus. Oh yea, and they're always skateboarding on the damn sidewalk!
give them a break you are going to grow old too older people can be awesome i know lots of them and some of them still even smoke and get high
Older people CAN be awesome. I know MANY awesome older people. However, there are many that can be quite annoying. They think that just because they are significantly older that they have the answers to everything. Sure, they've been on this earth for a lot longer than me, but they also have a biast perspective like everyone else. I still have growing and learning to do, yes. But don't scream at me with your fundamentalism and telling me what's gonna happen to me when I die or how cautious you have to be in the world because you might get shot if you say the wrong thing. Had a lady come into my work and make a purchase. She had to sign the credit slip that came out, but wouldn't use the pen I had at the register. "Something I learned a LONG time ago: If you use your own pen you won't getting everyone else's germs." not even five minutes before that, she was handling cash. HOWEVER, I know many many old people that like to tell stories and cut up with you. Those are the best.
