Hello, My friend told me, after he had taken LSD, that it would take 8 years of meditation to acheieve what happened in 8 hours of LSD. How can meditation "expand conscouness". Can someone explain to me that, and what he meant by expand consciousness and such? Thanks.

I can only guess at what your friend was implying. However, this might help. Meditation is about dropping all thoughts from your mind. For example, in focusing completely and totally on the action of breathing, like the rise and fall of your chest, everything else is dismissed from the mind. This is extremely hard to do (just see how long you can go without stray thoughts wondering into your brain)! This is why it takes years to perfect the art. Imagine you are watching a film. Meditation is about seeing the blank screen behind which the film (i.e your thoughts or life in general) is playing. This really increases your awareness of whatever you are focusing on and makes you more conscious of yourself then ever before (supposedly; i havnt achieved this). It is a state of advanced awareness (ironic as your aim is to dismiss all thoughs!). Please, anyone correct me if im wrong, as this is only the impression i have gained from my light research into the art of Buddhist meditation.

Meditation is a thing that help you to get to nirvana so that is place where you don't think... But with meditation you can also get lots of information from your past lives, get telepathic link etc etc... Actually i think that meditation is like doing magic... Theres so many thing what you can do when you are meditating...

(my spelling can be wrong but i am from finland so forgive me...)
