    Hello :)

As the title shows I'd like to know something about gay novels, since I'm looking for such ones. There are plenty of those out there, but as far as I've experienced a big part of those are just porn. That's not necessarily bad, yet not what I'm looking for.
Don't get me wrong, I don't feel uncomfortable with such scenes... however if you've been looking forward to a really good (and above all: serious) gay novel and everything you read is porn it gets frustrating after a while.
Do you know any good gay novel? I'm not too picky, but there has to be something not too bad out there, hasn't it?

    Thanks in advance, Deadly Sin

    Check out Lambda Literary Foundation.
Click the Awards link on the left > follow to Previous award winners.
Also search Amazon for "Lambda Literary Award"
Also a search on Google for gay literature turns up gay online GLBT book clubs and many reviews and histories of gay literature, and fewer adult books. Hint for excluding porn from gay searches on google "-adult", weeds out alot of those sites.

Also, don't be afraid to click the Amazon link to the left of this message.
They advertise different gay novels in the rotating ad all the time.
Clicking on the ad earns points for hipforums, which is a good thing.

Hmm well looking for a gay novel LED me to this book, although it might not be exactly what you're looking for...

Giovanni's Room, by James Baldwin? The only thing that makes me not sure if this is what you want is that, while the main character is in something of a gay relationship...his sexuality is very hard to define. Even so, BEAUTIFUL book.

you could try oscar wildes work - not all gay literature has to be crass and brazen
I would suggest - The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorian_Gray

infact no - I woud suggest all works by oscar wilde and hs life story
the man wasa genius to all - gay and straight and it is because of an appreciation of his work that I realised how stupid I was to think that gay people are different from straight people ----except for the obvious of course

Oscar wilde is loved by everyone and is the prime hero in the politics of gay politics without his suffering gay people would maybe now still not have a voice
I am a man who considers himself hetro but does not deny the absolute genius, beauty, and political sincerity of oscar wildes work- he was for me - the reason why my heterosexuality is not opposed to your homosexuality
the greatest of all the writers who politicised their sexuality and IMHO
the first writer of the truly modern era
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Wilde

The man was a genius by which I mean amongst the most educated and wisest of men, and above all taught us more than he was taught
maybe you should also look at the work of the genius that taught oscar wilde - Walter Pater a hedonist without whom the term "hedonism" would mean nothing

I was really surprised how many different GLBT Novels and Ficton other than Adult Fatasy and porn was out there until a few years ago when I first Joined a Book Club and was still at a point I was able to read.

Depending on your Interests, there are a variety of gay thermed books out there of all sorts of themes as well as different degrees of the extent of grapic love making content to the content of taht being not yet having intimate or any mention of gay intimacy at all depending on the age bracket and the authors.

The Author Greg Herren writes some Mystery based out of New Orleans and is a Private Investigater, believe there are about three in the series I know of,

For a Series of Books based on the friendships and lives of 3 friends, ss they go through high school to college is an author named (last name) SANCHEZ good read for issues of high school and the problems the three gay friends went through from coming out to discrimination and common bariers faced by teenagers and high school students.f

Another Non sexually graphic tasteful in my opinion is a series by an author named Dean James books about a mystery of a modern day vampire and his handsome assistant, and is based in England.

The ad on the left is a good source for books and would recommend finding a good author and a series. For me it was allways hit and miss, I would think I was gong ot love the book and it was a horrible read and ones I thought would be teadious I enjoyed alot, so it all about the types of book an the themes ou r trying to obtain.

Hope this gives some ideas on whats out there besides erotica and porn and wish all you peace.

I love The Fall of Kings and Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner and her partner, Delia Sherman. Also Magic's Pawn, Magic's Promise and Magic's Price by Mercedes Lackey. No porn. Just good love stories. I swear, women write the best gay love stories....

There was a book called Gossip I read a while back about, about gayness, politics and the media. That was pretty good, quite well-written and compelling. However, I can't remember who wrote it.

Dorian by Will Self is pretty good too, essentially it's a reworking of A Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, set in the 1980s gay scene. Very good, although the style's quite hard to get used to.

I've often thought about writing, and I guess it's inevitable that I'd end up writing if not about homosexuality then at least sort of around it. But I'd like to think that there was plenty of gay fiction out there that isn't just "erotica", because erotica just sucks.
