Thanks, and you too! ^_^ I don't really do much on Christmas day, my family is athiest and I'm Christian so I read bible stuff (I don't go church) and they all play with their presents and eat. On Boxing Day though the Christian side of the family come down and we have a nice day together. I can't wait!

i fucking hate christmas. i didn't until this year. i'm with people who say they don't feel it. a lot of people have been saying that. i think it's because we're actually looking at it and thinking about how fucking dumb it is. all the adorable whimsy has worn off when you see what had to happen so we could have our trees and our shiny things and our pretty twinkly lights and delicious cookies and pies and expensive little shit wrapped in paper we're just going to rip apart and throw away. i'm finally thinking about the lyrics to the songs, and if they weren't exactly obnoxious before because i was all doped up on christmas spirit they're straight up ridiculous and annoying now.

"mom's a slut, i caught her with a fat man"
"we're rich and own horses and have a happy family, ha ha ha"
"a would-be terrorist is coming in your house and leaving something for your kids"
"be happy jesus was born and christianity started and now we have radical fundamentalists!"
"your kids can't sleep because they're so excited about the nice things they know you bought them because you buy them nice things every year and if you don't this year they'll probably hate you"
"i can make lots of money moaning about decking halls and sitting by a fire because people are conditioned to feel warm and mooshy when they hear it, no matter how many times or how many people sing it"

i don't know. i'm sorry. that's all i hear when i turn on the radio today. it's just so fucking sick, it's hard to believe the whole thing isn't a parody of itself. i would respect a heroin junkie more than i'd respect someone who goes out and buys presents for everyone they know, a tree, lights, ornaments, food, and whatever else they think will make them happy, every year. it's the same thing. you're paying for a feeling and it's fake. nobody gives a fuck about jesus. they pretend they do, maybe they buy a nativity scene and think "oh that's nice, he was born, it's so pretty!" but... it's just so fucking stupid.

If the materialism of Christmas is shallow, whining about it is equally pretentious.

I really don't see the problem though. When christmas break rolls around I get to see all the old friends I have that live in different towns. I get to see the extended family and eat kickass food with them. I get to play with my little cousins. I get to get wasted a lot.

People aren't nearly as shallow as you imagine.

that part of it is what christmas is. seeing people you love and eating and playing and getting wasted are wonderful things. but you can do that without all the bullshit.

and yes, people ARE as shallow as i imagine. they are way worse than i can understand. they bitch that their presents were too cheap. they bitch that they didn't get what they wanted, or didn't get enough. they beat eachother down for tickle-me-elmos or playstation threes or whatever the latest beat-eachother-down petroleum product from china is.

i think yer just tiffed cuz i out-cynical-ed you :p

And I'm in a suprisingly good mood. Half a dozen beers in me, some tied-to-the-back-of-a-truck-GT-snow-racer-battles, a big family dinner tomorrow w/ a 35 pound turkey, and half a dozen ski days left.

i'm probably a 5 or 6 hour drive away from you right now. I doubt the cultural gap is all that big.

perhaps not. but we still get american tv in alaska, and we have a lot of americans who thought it was kewlz that the government gives you money for living here. is your point that people are equally materialistic, selfish, and unappreciative despite geographical location? that is probably true.

christmas eve is always at my dad's side of the family. and christmas day is typically my mom's side, if anyone ever shows up.

i don't think it felt much like xmas either. weird. that's what all of my family was saying too.

Well for me Christmas was a race against the clock as always...
The 24th in the Morning: Going to Québec (we made it in a non-stop 3 hour drive)
The 24th Afternoon: going at my grandparents appartement - my grandma , who has alzeihmer's disease, stressed about forgetting gifts..
We then went back to our hotel room
The 24th in the Evening: Eating supper with my grandparents, going to the X-mas...
Listening to a very long and intense sermon :D
    Opening some gifts
11:30 - going back to the hotel room

The Christmas morning: getting ready and going to a familly reunion until 2:30 PM (There was some excellent tourtières though :D )
The Christmas evening/night: Going to a party at my uncle's house in Chambly which is a three hour car ride from Québec City...
Going back home at 2 in the morning..
