hello all, ive been reading these forums a lot lately and everyone on here seems to go for the all natural method. but the thing is i would love to get natural dreads but i think it would take years because my hair is quite straight and fine. so i used the back combing method off of dreadhead. im just over a month into the dreading process and im already feeling some locking going on but then there are some "dreads" that are very loose and dont even feel tight in the least bit, do u think i should re-back comb them or what. also i went in the ocean about a week after i made my dreads and then afterwards i had a bunc of lumps and stuff in my dreads do u think i should try to stay away from the ocean untill they get tighter or what. here are some pictures of my dreads on the first day that i got them. also, im currently joining some of them together because they are a little too thin for my liking ive already joined like 6 together and made 3 thicker dreads and then put rubber bands on them untill they grow together more. this guy i know lewis whos dreads are awsome and has had them for like 3 years said i should keep my rubber bands on for one more month. and i also surf a lot so im int he water all the time and i dont want my dreads to separate or get messed up while they are tightening so do u think i should keep the bands on for a while or what

that was a lot of questions.

umm.. salt water is good. i have never heard of anyone having problems.

the loose ones probably just need to be rolled more. ... but you can undo them and rebackcomb if you like.

all i know about bands is the my friend had some on his tips and they had to be cut off. but lots of people use them, so who knows.

i used to have straight hair (but thick)... and my hair dreading really well... just dont worry.... Palm roll ever so often and dont use conditioner...

Id say take the bands out (heard they can melt into your hair) and replace them with beads....

on some types of hair, like really fine straight hair, the backcombing has to fall out before dreads can form. Leave 'em alone. If you re-backcomb the ones that are falling out, it will only take that much longer to have dreads. I'd also suggest beads rather than rubber bands.

^^^^^ thats kind of what my dreads did. but only the tips undreaded a little. ive had my dreads for a year and some are still just knotting up at the ends. it just takes time, let them knot up their own way because eventually they will. peace~

I'd take out the bands after a few days or your hair will swallow them up, the sea water will help them to dread better
just keep palmrollling them, they won't start to dread properly after like 6 months or so, but even then they will be a little loose, use beads rather than bands anyway

Just make sure you dry your hair properly after your dunking

If you love natural dreads then go for it! I had fine thin blonde hair too..
Backcombing will fall out, it's a fact..
Lumps and stuff are good, they mean your dreads are tightening up! Yay! Getting them wet helps them tighten up, yes.
Don't put rubberbands in your dreads, if you really want to make them combine (they probably will do it themselves in time..) use beads..
My conviction still is Leave Your Hair Alone!
If you love natural dreads, comb your dreads out, or go 'natural' from here!!

Yeah, I'm a straight headed that dreaded, and I did it naturally. Pretty much the only thing I did to aid the process was scub like hell in the shower when I was shampooing. I just threw a couple of beads in, *happiness*
