Is anyone here familiar with the story of the Egyptian god Horus? If so, what do you make of the similarities that are believed by some to be between Horus and Jesus?

The idea of a virgin birth, death and rebirth are not limited to Jesus or even Horus for that matter.
It's an old motif that Christians took advantage of - not necessarily as a deception, but because the rest of the ancient religious world wouldn't have questioned it.

If you read the old pagan critiques of Christianity, what stand out (at least to me) is that they didn't have an issue with Christians' claims of Jesus. What the pagans questioned is that they saw Christianity as a really poor and simplistic version of Plato. They also respected ancestral tradition, so they didn't ahve a problem with Judaism, but they looked at the Christians as turning their backs on their tradition. But as far as the Jesus story, they barely even blinked at that.

Actually Jesus is more like Dionysus the greek god of wine - it was the Greeks who gave most of the miracle stories to the bible and the greeks who celebrated dionysus with
with Harvest Festival - the ritual of blessing bread and wine - the idea of rebirth
and a whole host of things - wine is an important ritualism in the church and it was the greeks who amalgamated Jesus and Dionysus and gave Jesus the rituals that are about the thanks and the consumption of his teachings. The idea that a god returns to the earth is greek
Christianity died out all over the world almost and its centre for hundreds of years at that time became Greece - During that time the bible was massively altered
