working class heroes

    Although we hear about the great heroes of Britain like Winston Churchil and the men and women who fought in the two world wars, I also like reading about heroes who were not part of the political life of the country but who were none-the-less loved by ordinary British people.

    One such person I have in mind that I like reading about is Jack Sheppard who was something of a thief - he was never violent and often gave some of his loot to other poor people. No jail could hold him he was arrested 5 times and 4 times he escaped
    There are a lot of examples of working class heros in British culture I just wondered which, if any, do you like reading about
