I have an on going headache and my current prescription has stopped working. For the time being what are some things I can do to make it lessen it? I'm afraid my headaches are way too frequent to use OTCs (everyday, all day long). Suggestions much appreciated!

do you know the cause of the headaches? The permanent solution is to discover the cause and fix it. could be a reaction to a food a perfume or something in your house, could be a tooth problem, could be you need a chiropractic adjustment, could be symptom of a disease, could be just tension, could be a lot of things. play detecttive and find the cause.

As the man says, you need to get to the root. Most doctors are happy to palm you off with a prescription. It is rather like sweeping the dust under the carpet. Look at what is in your house, also look at your diet. Do have a sinus problem? Have you had a blood test recently? Perhaps you have a vitamin or mineral deficiency? Go back to when these headaches started. As far as alternatives go, a good Cranio Sacral practitioner could also help.

Ok I agree. Find the root cause

I had headaches and I have TMD (temporal mandibular joint disorder)
I work in a dental office that treat such disorders

Let me ask you some questions to rule out your jaw joint

do you hear clicking or popping in your jaw especially while eating
do you ever have pain in front of your ears
have you ever been hit in jaw or any car accidents?
where are your headaches? are they on your tempals, or the back of your head or neck?
do you have ear symptoms, such as fluid or stuffiness or ringing
do you have facial pain or soreness, upper back neck and shoulder pain?
do you grind or clench your teeth or are your k-9's flattened or other teeth jagged?
has your bite changed or do you search for a place to close or bite?

if you have any of these symptoms i'd say they could be from your jaw joint and it can be very painful....

headaches can also be neurological like migraines and stuff just they way ur brain fires..so that does require meds....but most likely if you had a triptan drug and it stopped working your headaches are not migraines.

I hope you find the source of your problem..because i'll tell ya' what before i had my tmd treated i had a migrainous headached daily and you cannot function that way
good luck i hope you getting things worked out!
