I've gained about 10 pounds in the time I started the provera (I've been on it about 2 months). I feel so sluggish....and large. I'm not BIG, I just feel big. I crave food constantly, and I'm not pregnant. I tested for it because I was having some of the symptoms again. I've just been eating. Between that, my job (Subway....where I get free food....that doesn't help much), and spending time with my baby girl, I feel like I'm just going to become a beached whale and never lose it again. Will yoga or pilates help at all? I did both before I got pregnant, not often, but I still have the tapes. I don't want to join a gym because I'd lose time with Alexis, and if those tapes will help, I can do them while she's asleep. Have any of you ladies had a weight problem while on the depo? What did you do to control it? And, please don't try to persuade me to use a different form of birth control. I'm in the middle of deciding to keep this or switch to the patch, but I'll make that choice on my own.
I gained a shitload of weight on depo... I was on it for almost 2 years, the first year wasn't problematic but hte last 9 months I kept gaining fat. I biked to and from work every day (1/2 hour there, 1/2 hour back) and went to the gym three times a week and I was still growing a belly. I found weight gain from depo unbelievably difficult to get rid of
I gained 45 pounds on Depo, I lost my sex drive COMPLETELY and I was depressed and sluggish the entire time I was on it. Forty five pounds is a lot of weight on a 5 ft. then 100 body. Personally, I'd never use it again. There isn't anything you can do until it wears off about 12 to 13 weeks after the injection. I was on it about a year, and it took me about 9 months to lose the weight. I did not diet, I ate sensibly and remembered NOT to eat when I wasn't hungry (I think Depo fucked up my ability to tell when I was hungry and when I was not, and didn't have that problem before or after.) I hope you get back to normal soon.
I never been on it, but for losing weight advice, hula hooping helps you lose weight. Get a 1" thick pvc hula hoop with water or without. Hoop for about 10 mins each day and they say that helps you to lose weight. I make hula hoops if you're interested.
I'm really sorry about that, I know how it feels to be on birth control and uncontrollably gain weight, it's insanely frustrating and depressing. I'm sure yoga would help, any kind of activity will help, it may not LOSE the weight right away, but I'm sure it would regulate it so you wouldn't gain too much. Also, this is going to sound VERY strange, but I've been on the forums for a while, and I know you have too and I remember you before you had a baby. I just wanted to tell you that your baby girl is BEAUTIFUL and I think it's awesome you had her, it's so amazing to watch people change and grow, even if you don't even know them! Best of luck to you with both parenting and depo!!
It's not so much the gaining weight, I think. I'm not HUGE, so it doesn't bother me. It's the fact that I feel so....gross and unfit. My boyfriend told me I'm not fat. I just FEEL tired a lot. I guess I'll try the yoga. It might help me feel better. Surf, thanks.
it's a documented side effect of depo which there is no way to tell in advance if and how severe it will be in a given individual. bottom line, I'd suggest a switch. as for gainng weight, excess calories = storage as fat (i.e. weight gain). so if you don't eat too much u shouldn't gain weight regardless of how fat you feel. watch what you eat and aim to exercise at least 3-4 hours a week.
hey just wanted to no what this depo and is there a site for it to help gaining it weight please reply as it will be a huge help thanks very much
I gained 40 on it and it messed up my body soooooo bad. I do horrible on all hormonal birthcontrol though and sponges and diagrarhms hurt me. We pull-out and if I get pregnant I get pregnant. When we are done having kids I'll offer to get 'fixed'.
