I remember downloiading some off audiogalaxy a few years ago and liking it, but it has fallen out of play rotation and I cant remember what he sounds like.

    I agree, backtothelab.

Trish, you do realize that Aphex Twin has been around long before any of those people you mentioned, so I don't see how you can say he's not original. I can't think of anyone who came before Aphex Twin that sounds anything like him. He has spawned a lot of imitators, though.

A lot of the artists you mentioned are far more ordinary and uneventful - not to mention unoriginal - than Aphex Twin. Most D&B is very simplistic and highly derivative, except for maybe some of the stuff by people like Squarepusher, which is some truly unique work.

To pass RDJ off the way you are shows a lack of understanding of his work, even if you don't care for his music.

More then the shit i download? fuck...

i have over 300 cds dealing with electronic. i dont like aphex twin. i think he's over-rated. and i wasnt comparing aphex's style to trance or dnb.... ratt brought up trance of whatever and asked me what electronic i DO like.

why dont you learn to pay attention? okay?

holy crap, who the hell said electronic music is the easiest music to make? what the hell do you know????? you are your own worst critic

Richard D. James is pretty much a very well respected electronic musician. A lot of people think that without him there would be no "this artist" or "that artist", and it's probably true. Some of richards music really blows, for example while under the alias "caustic window" he was making really hardcore mixes of industrial electronic. It was really raunchy sounding and was hard to not cringe too.
I think in the end, it depends on what interests you, and sure we all have our own say. But im going to say this, Bucephalus Bouncing Ball and you should get it it might change your mind. Then maybe, just maybe making electronic music sounds a LITTLE bit harder to make.

god... i said i think he is over-rated. arent i allowed my opinion? and didnt you see that i said the only producer in electronic that i have heard and respect is ltj?
yes, much dnb is very simplistic.... but that's just mainstream shit.

fawk, most electronic is simplistic- that's why i dont like it.

BTW, matt... i asked you if you are familier with ltj's work?

i think ltj is ALSO good to listen to. but i think RDJ is being better defended without my uneducated ass. so i'll just stand over here and go "hoorah" and "amen" from time to time. carry on.

    well,

    let's say it this way....

rat doesnt like and apprieciatte the grateful dead YET many many people think the dead did something WONDERFUL. no one puts him down for it.

(oh yeah, rat is the music expert, he is always right)

but despite that.... maybe i really dont feel aphex's music and think it's over-rated just like rat thinks that about the dead.

    so be it.

well, i think ltj brings a lot more soul to the music despite how long he was been producing. (which has been quite a while)

I like some of what I've heard from LTJ Bukem, Trish. It's not really my cup o' tea, though. And I definitely don't think he's more revolutionary or innovative than Aphex Twin.

aphex isnt my cup of tea. bukem is better then you think but whatever.

i just have a grin on my face now cause i was mad cause people ganged up like usual in random thoughts but now i just think it's funny yet sad.

it's not being ganged up on just because people don't agree with you. you DID ask for comments, after all. ganging up on you would be a pile of people calling you an asshole and telling you to fuck off for no reason whatsoever. it's a different sort of deal. are we going to be accused of being "cliqueish" again, just because we like aphex twin? stands to reason taht when you make a post about aphex twin, his fans are gonna show up. same with anything else.

Trish, what exactly have you heard from Aphex Twin?

I can understand why some people might not like his newer work, but have you ever heard his earlier material, like Selected Ambient Works '85-92, or Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2? This stuff is a lot more ambient in quality, almost pastoral at times. It's very good head music, and quite emotional as well.

His later stuff can sound very abrasive and harsh, and it isn't for everyone.

well, first of all kc... i called it cliquish because certain people were ready to jump in and tell me to listen to something i dont download and were actually quite rude about it.

second of all, rat, ive listened to the newer stuff and some older stuff...prolly less older stuff. so whatever.... maybe there is some stuff i would like that i havent heard.

but it's still fucked up that i cant express my opinion about music without 5 people on me in 10 mins. telling me to actually listen to them.
