Complete lifestyle change. I left the US in April and I've lost 50 pounds, without doing anything. Just eating healthy (easier outside of the US) and actually doing hard work. So come to India..

If you aren't losing weight despite all the physical work you're doing, then it's time to change your diet. Avoid all processed foods. Eat simple foods. Of course it isn't always possible, and it takes a long time to get used to a new diet.

Quit eating potatoes, and if you eat them then eat them cold, something to do with the starch in cold potatoes crystallising but hot it turns to glucose much faster. i dunno, but it worked for me.

make sure you eat regularly. if you're excercising and not overeating, then it may be that you're not eating regularly enough. since i started eating more frequently, i've been shedding weight.

It is told that one has to expend more calories than one takes in to lose weight. I don't thinik there is more to it than that. It IS harder than it sounds.

When one works hard physically, one gets really hungry. Men can eat more calories than womyn and stay trim, they have more muscle and less fat and they use calories differently. (I am not a Nutritioniist, but this is what I know from counseling breastfeeding womyn.) If you are keeping up with the guys in the work AND in the lunch department, you may have the problem there. Also, eating your main meal EARLY in the day tends to keep you from gaining weight. There is that famous study where people ate the same amount of calories a day. One group in the monring, one group at lunch and one at night. The morning group lost weight, the lunch group stayed the same weight, the night group GAINED weight. This has been subjected to argument, but a good breakfast may keep you from eating too much later.

Also, don't follow this to the letter, as you should not eat only ONE MEAL a day. Spacing your food over 6 or 8 small meals over the day helps. I have always remained trim (with the exception of being on Depo and starting perimenopause, where I gained weight in my tummy and butt and boobs.) and I eat ALL the time, but only a little bit at a time. Due to IBS I cannot fill my stomach or I get the runs, so I have to eat a little at a time. I weighed 90 something when I was in my early 20s. I am only about 123 to 130 max, now. I have to eat breakfast, and I often eat a fairly large one. (for me, which is maybe a few eggs, yolks only, 4 pieces of toast, and maybe some fruit.) Some people do well eating only fruit before noon, but this sucks if you have IBS, because there is too much fiber, before your body is ready for it. Also, fruit is low in calories, so IMO, eating some carbs, fiber and proten at every meal is essesial.

I know when I was a vegetarian, I was really trim. My dd who is veg is a beautiful shape, slim and yet volupulous, and she eats an ovo lacto, sometimes pesco vegetarian diet.

Like druminmama said, go to Deadbear's gym (it's a personal website if someone can give a link) and you can get good stay in shape ideas.

Oh, when I was a young teen, I had some weight on me I didn't like. I totally elimiated drinking ANY calories. No pop (even diet pop will cause you to have an insulin drop, which causes you to be very hungry, stay AWAY from diet pop) and drank only water for every meal (of course along with good food) and whenever I was thirsty.

I only drink water, now. I occasionally drink some juice, but a few times a week, not every day. Pop can pack on the cals, so can too much juice. Alcohol is used by your body as sugar, so it is fattening as well as makes you hungry, in many people. I never drink alcohol. Water is great. If you want to have a few drinks or some pop at Holidays time, have a 4 oz serving of pop, or a SMALL drink of alcohol. Then, only water. I bring water in my car all the time, as some people have parties, where there is nothing to drink but pop. Yuck. Every party should have plenty of bottle water.

If you think your weight is beyond where you can control it yourself, I have heard Weight Watchers has the best progtrams for womyn.

And DON'T let yourself get hungry. It is the main reason people overeat.

I'm going to echo what several others have said. It requires a total lifestyle overhaul if you want to permanently keep the weight off. It requires recognizing which foods you have an addiction to, and avoiding them. For me, it was wheat and sugar that cause the most problems, and as soon as I stopped eating them, my body became healthier and I started losing weight. I didn't have to do anything else, just stop eating the food that I crave when I'm not really hungry. Cravings and food addiction are usually caused by eating foods your body should not have, or that are harmful to you. Most people in our society are addicted to wheat and sugar, and would do well to not eat those things, ever. But your problem might be dairy, or any one of numerous other foods. You also need to listen to your body. Don't eat when you aren't hungry, don't eat everything on your plate just because it's there, and do eat something, even if it's just a healthy snack, whenever you are hungry. Don't eat out of habit, do it only to prevent feeling hunger. Some people do best with four or five smaller meals a day, some do best with two large meals each day, but as long as they are listening to their bodies, it's right for them.

my husband makes it almost impossible to give up wheat and sugar. i've done it before and it worked so well. but dave is of the "eat whatever the hell you want and it makes no difference" phyllum. his whole family is. i swear to god, i'e never seen people buy and eat so much junk food in my whole life. but as such, my trick has always been "just don't buy it. don't use it." but if i don't get it, he will, and it ends up in dinner every damned time.

Good advice, boogie mama! I was "addicted" to dairy (although it didn't get me fat, it made me VERY ill for many years, gave me respiratory alllergies, and even yeast infections, I got so much better when I got rid of the stuff, but, even though I KNEW it was making me sick, I had a hard time giving it up. The best thing that happened was that my IBS and lactose intolerance ganged up on me, and made eating dairy SO painful, (one weekend after eating some dairy 17 years ago, I lost 10 lbs from the runs, and the pain was so bad I was almost hospitalized, I had to hit "Rock Bottom" to get that shit out of my diet) and after that I had no choice but to avoid it. I can now eat small quantities of butter, but I keep that for things where it really makes a difference.)

KC, my dh's family eats like that, too, they are all overweight, all have chronic stuff, like everything from Type two Diabetes, to skin conditions to heart disease, they ALL die early, yet refuse to take their horrible diet into acccount. These are the people I caught giving Sunshine JELLO, as an infant, before she was even on solids. OMG I was mad.)

My dh's best freind has divertiulitis and inflamitory bowel disease, He is a cow milk nut. (He brings his own quart of milk to our house for dinner, as we never had the stuff in the house.) He also, refuses to admit that this stuff is probably killing him, his doctor told him "No more milk." but he claims "I'm OK now." Sigh, he just came off of high dose cortisone therapy THAT is why is is feeling better. So, I just make Mooing and gagging sounds when I see him with a glass of milk, then loud (mouth generated) farting sounds. Ah, I am such a good freind. ;)

oh, hell, dave's family is known as the stick people. they're all so freaking thin it's so aggravating. whenever we're having a family dinner, and someone is making plates and passing them out, they pile the food on my plate a mile fucking high, assuming that the only reason i'm fat is that i'm constantly cramming food in my mouth. after all, they eat absolutely everything whenever they want it, it makes no difference to their waistlines. hell, they eat more than i do, but it's pretty insulting to have people think that if they want sancks or something, just go to kc's house. fucking aggravating. i haven't bought junk food in years! dave's the one who can't go to bed without cookies or pecan pie. AAARGH!!! sorry my little rant.

but, my daughter considers celery sticks, spinach leaves and carrots to be great snacks. she knows soda and juice are bad for her, but she can still have just a little from time to time (she says "too much will break my teeth). she's doing good. she knows the difference. she still wants candy from time to time, and i think that's okay.

Yeah, the pop thing for sure. There was one week where we didn't have any in the house and I drank pure water and nothing else. I went back to school a few days later and everyone was telling me how thin I looked. Then I started drinking pop again.
But other than that, I can't really help you. Whether I go to the gym, eat healthy, and all that other stuff, my weight just won't budge. I can scarf down 10 chocolate bars a day, and still weight 170....this number just won't MOVE!!!
