Has anyone been noticing that internet ads are getting more and more obnoxious, how they can make loud sounds and music until you click on them, or how they can straight out lie to you by saying something like "scariest thing you've ever seen, must be eighteen to see" i hate em, does anyone know of anything to do about it, or is it their right?
yeah I know they suck so now, I use firefox with plugins to block all the ads and yes it's their right to have ads it makes them money
Step 1: Go to www.mozilla.com and download the FireFox browser. Install. Set as your default browser. Step 2: Go back to www.mozilla.com and search for "adblock plus". Install that and learn how to use it. Wildcards are your friend -- so, instead of just blocking the object address as is, put an * after the main address. So, for example, instead of blocking "http://ads.cnn.com/html.ng/site=cnn&cnn_position=306x60_lft&cnn_...", I block "http://ads.cnn.com*". It's awesome. I never want to browse without adblock ever again!
The ads are getting worse all the time. What it will take to stop the problem is that professional webmasters and site hosts are going to have to overcome their greed and actually present user friendly content. I've had many webmasters tell me they run the pop ups and other obnoxious ads because they want to get paid. If you ask me,that's what is wrong with the world today. To many people who value getting paid above all else.
I was stupid enough to believe one I saw on msn messenger. It said that I had won a $500 gift certifcate for Starbucks. I figured, Starbucks is a reputable company, it must be true. So I started the process of claiming my 'prize'. The 1st thing they wanted to know was my email and mailing address. Then I got led through these products that I would have to pay for in order to claim my 'prize'. Pretty soon I just exited and said, 'screw it.' The next day I started getting this huge amount of crap in my email bulk box. Now I get between 100 and 150 emails in my bulk box every day! :computer: I'll never fall for that kinda thing again......:artist:
I've had to abandon a couple of e-mail addresses because of that. Woodsman has it right in saying that the webmasters are looking to get paid. OTOH, webspace isn't free, for beter or worse.
I have my hotmail set up so that every message goes into junkmail. As long as I check it every 5 days I can add the people that I want and ignore the rest. gmail on the other hand has a killer spam filter and I get no spam on that account.
