I think his death will mark a turning point in Iraqi history. It is symbolic of the end of an era. What will happen next is probably more civil war. The Iraqi government doesnt know how to rule democratically. They only respect fear and force, and they need a strongman dictator to keep peace. Someone may rise who rallies the people against the US. We have to stay a while to keep the middle east from becoming out of control. I think Al Sadir should be leader.

His trial was a farce orchestrated by the US, and his execution will be seen as murder by the US. Is this what the world needs right now? Let's give the detractors more reason to hate us. We are still operating on drugstore cowboy politics. And it will come back to bite us.

Was this announcement Bush's Christmas present to all of us that we should be prepared to lose more of our children in the name of some stupid form of justice or retribution.

Nixon got a pardon, Clinton got a pass, Milosevic died before his trial ended. What happened to Noriega? Why stir the waters now? Who does it make whole?

Why not news that Bin Ladin had been captured? Any ideas? Wasn't he responsible for the Towers, wasn't he the chief villian, what about asking Saudi Arabia about their part in our tragedy.

I realize Sadaam was tried in Iraq, but it was orchestrated by the US, why now...?

Why is it we only saw bits and pieces of his trial on the US news, but we had to watch hours of the white bronco chase? and the entire hearing about Clarence Thomas and his porn videos, but this wasn't seen as being worthy of being broadcast?

We may have got more of it in the UK - it was a farce from beginning to end.
They refused to examine any of his claims and actively barred his defence from presenting evidence. The central claim was obviously his right to say he disputed the courts legitimacy. They could have at least explained to him how they felt they had this right and the reasons why they would dispute his claim and therefore subjugate him to its findings. Also Hussein was not allowed to question the governments of the UK and USA over certain dealings he had with them concerning their wishes that the Kurds be moved from their homelands etc. There are a million reasons to suspect that the trial was a sham and a whitewash - one with serious consequences

I dont believe he had a fair trial - neither do I believe he could get a fair trial and so they should make his sentence life imprisonment. I also believe they will not execute him anyway - well I believe its 50/50
the west might want to appear benevelent after all

Yes, in the English language it is. One is "hanged" by a hangman, but a picture is "hung" on the wall.

I read the papers. I'm sure you do too read about the daily civilian death counts.

Seems human life is really cheap over there, and by comparison,
    very high in the West.

The death is honestly irrelevent. All it will spark is a sperodic burst of violence from small militias resulting in few US soldier deaths and many Iraqui deaths (like any other day in good ol' Iraq), and then all the crap will be over. The Saddam loyalists will just pick someone else to follow, and the US will have a new face to hunt and populize on TV.

The world will still be spinnin'.

    Dear Saddam,

Wake up, sir, it's time. We got a little show to put on, and you're part of it. You gonna walk up them twenty steps and feel that noose around your neck, and that sack over your face. Then we gonna spring the trap. And you know how much slack we put in the rope, fucker? Twelve inches. Sorry, thirty centimeters.

Your neck ain't gonna break. You gonna dangle on that rope with your air cut off. Your legs gonna kick like a sprinter. After thirty seconds it gonna feel bad, like you wanna breathe, and after sixty seconds it gonna feel real bad, and after ninety seconds it's gonna be a screaming agony like you wouldn't believe, every second will be longer than the last, and there won't be any air, any air, any air, and we'll be standing there laughing and taking pictures.

    What goes around, comes around.

    Have a good day.

News flash: Saddam, they broke your neck, according to a news account. You didn't strangle. Sorry about that.

Mmmhmm... This whole thing has really turned into the show trial that wasn't. In the meantime, let's all have tea with Hammurabai.

    Thanks, Shaggie.
I'm not really into hangings. Neither were Saddam's victims. If I had the victims names and printed them here, it would come to several thousand web pages. That's not counting the Iran/Iraq war victims of the 80's, a war which our boy Saddam started.

"Last night I had the strangest dream, I never dreamed before.
I dreamed the world had all agreed
To put an end to war.
And the people filled the streets that day,
    And danced around and around,
And guns and swords, and uniforms, were scattered on the ground.

"I dreamed there was a mighty hall,
And the rooms were filled with men.
And the papers they were signing said,
    They'd never fight again.

And when the papers all were signed,
    And a million copies made.
We all joined in and circled hands,
And bowed our heads, and prayed."

If you printed all the names of the people Bush has so far killed you will find that list to be a lot longer than the list of saddams victims
