me and my lady friend are hitting the road soon, leaving south eastern MA in a week and will be camping for a month in NY/VT. after that we are planning on being at the Ocala Gathering for Feb. and hitting up the Langerado Festival in March near Key West. finally, we will be heading west to New Orleans for a months or so and would like to either find some quick work, doing labor for some cash to keep us going on the road, or even to just volunteer somewhere that could feed us atleast, we've got camping gear we could stake. is there anyone here that knows of specific sites or groups that are looking for volunteers to clean up houses or do construction or roofing? some phone numbers or email adresses would be kind so that we could contact ASAP and know exactly who we would meet to help out and where to go. also, i'm a street musician, play guitar and sing. could someone tell me the best places to make money around town? or how about a strip with some bars that might let me come off the street and play for tips and beer? we could really use some help or advice, we've never been to New Orleans or actually, anywhere in the south! thank you! -Gypsy Joe 1....2....3.... LOVIN' YOU!!!!
WoW, dude. we have to same name, sorda. Haha. I was in New orleans about 5 months ago doing vollunteer work. Im not sure about how many groups there are still going. Try looking up the Common Ground kids. They might be able to help you out, brother. And in you are going in April, its an awesome time to rage, cause mardi gras and all. Stay on Decatur!! Burbon will get you in trouble. Street musicians get mad respect, and there are many good friends of mine roaming the quarter. Go to the Abbey, (on Decatur), Aunt Tikki's, and Checkpoint charlie's. THats where alot of the kids hang out. Oh, gosh, so many memories. Well, hit me up, whenever u get there, I can hook you up with some awesome people that could help you along your way. Peace in you travels, brother. XOXO GYPSIJO
thanks, gypsi!!! i'm glad to have met a rainbow sista in the area that i'm going too. i actually might end up down in New Orleans sooner that i thought. it all depends on if this girl is still leaving with me after my last gig, saturday. i'm a little nervous that she'll wuss out. if she doesn't leave with me, i'm either going straight to FL to work on a farm before the Ocala Gathering, or i might go right to New Orleans for a little then go to FL in Feb. i'll definately hit you up when i'm around though. if you're on myspace, look me up. i'm on that site way more. my name is......ready?..... GYPSY JOE!!!
hiya galagala, i resided in the french quarter in new orleans. the places gyspyjojo mentioned are wonderful. on tuesday nights checkpoint charlie's has an open mike night. the apple barrel bar on frenchman street is very cool. this bar often has an open mike night as well. the abbey has preformers sometimes as well. as gyspyjojo, mentioned avoid bourbon street. you can play your music on the street on decatur & royal street. the are numerous jobs available in this market. if you want to work you will find one easily. gyspyjojo, i believe our paths have crossed. i hang out in all of the above bars on occasion. i thought you looked familar. galagala, i return to work friday afternoon at the horrible corporate bar (pat o'brien's) which pays the rent. this week with new year's and the sugar bowl football game i will be working "stupid fucking long hours". i'll "pm" you with email addresses and contact numbers in the latter part of next week which should be beneficial to you. hopefully when you guys get to town we can meet and i will show you and your lady around.
I dunno about going to New Orleans during the off-seasons. Its a really hard place. ESPECIALLY after the storm, it was terible, the cops suck, and everything is left in shambles. But, if you go nonetheless, its a fucken awesome expirience. Coming soon in the spring, mardi gras season, omgosh, i cant even explane. When you go, look up a few musicians, good friends of mine that will help you. Doug, and Coydog. Blessed travels, brother. Love, GypsiJO

Take the advice about avoiding Bourbon St. seriously. There are a lot of good places uptown as well, and you can take the street car on St. Charles. Igor's bar, on St. Charles, has laundry machines in the back.
:daisy: I wish you good luck while in N.O.. Be very careful while camping in bayou country. There are some old cajuns that will only speak french, they understand english but won't use it. Cajun french isn't like parisian french. Let us know how you found everything when you get back. keep cool
Haha, fucks yea. That was us. Made with Love Cafe, Emergency communities. Spent 9 months down there. amazing expirience.
