hey guys! i am pretty sure i'm going to india in late february...at least i'd like to be there. i'm trying to get myself in order here. i'm wondering a few things. first, how long does it typically take to receive a tourist visa? (i'm american) second, anyone know any good websites to go through to get my ticket? anyone recommend a way to obtain a fair priced ticket? also, how horrible would it be to be in india in, say, march, april, may? as far as heat is concerned. i'd be centered around mumbai, goa... any advice to a sweet american girl who's never before been to india?
1.) It took me a 4 days by courier service. www.travcour.com (Im from England) 2.) Best site by far is www.statravel.com . You can get singles from London to Delhi or Mumbai for as cheap as £166, so I imagine the American site is just as good. 3.) March april may is hottest. I'm going to Mumbai or Delhi around May then i'm heading south because it's nearer the equator and the ocean thus is cooler than the northern plains (Delhi and that) which get to around 43 degrees...Kerala in the southernmost tip is about 33 degrees during may, which is a good temperature. Also if you go to Kerala in May/June you can watch the first monsoons come in from the ocean which I imagine will be pretty cool. Also they have hill stations dotted around in which you can cool off on and of course an ocean you can swim in! You could always head north and just hang around the himalayas until it cools down in September...But if you insist on hanging around the south then i'd say head for the hill stations around Kerala. Whatever though, it's worse on the plains up north during this time. Hope this helps.
March isn't to bad you could visit most places but by April you want to be heading up the mountains. Try anywhere in Uttaranchal and Himachal Pradesh.
I'm hoping to go to goa in March and was also wondering if getting a visa is hard and whats envolved in getting one. I'd also like to know if anyone can reccomend anything to do once you get there, being that I don't intend to spend two weeks stuck on a beach.
Partys, cow-watching, arguing with saddhus...smoking with saddhus. Probably yoga, meditation, sight-seeing. Tonnes of stuff. Get a guidebook.
