to have decided at 25 to never brush my hair again, but I really don't care. I feel different already and it's only day 3. I do have a few questions however that I hope that some of the elder dread heads could help me with. - I work in an office and have been "climbing the corporate ladder" as of late and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to keep my extraordinarily messy hair somewhat neat. - I have a wedding to attend tomorrow and was wondering (hoping!) that seeing as I'm still washing my hair every day (with bronners), would it be ok to us a little hairspray or something to make myself look "normal". (ugh @ family events, especially ones that happen on NYE!) - I have elected to go the natural route and have just been washing and drying, no brushing, no backcombing. It seems to be going well for early in the 3rd day. There are sections of snarly hair that are too big for my liking right now... so I seperate them, is this ok? Will this make the process go slower? - I already know not to use wax. Is there anything I can use? I was on KnottyBoy.com and was peaking at their locking gel and their cooling spray (the itchies haven't started yet, but I'm sure they will at some point). Are these recommended or frowned upon? I thank you in advance for your help and know-how. ~K.
-best way to make your hair look neat while knotting is to pre section and back comb. Otherwise your just going to have a tangled mess for a REAL long time. Learn to love hair ties, hats, and bandans. -With the natural process you are goign to have to rip your hair apart to form dreads. No harm there, its a must really, unless you want like 3 giant dreads. -Stay away form knotty boy. Aloe gel ftw!! It seems to keep the frizzies away, but some have even said gel becuase it just washses out. Good luck and post pics!
- I would just try keeping it back in a ponytail, bun, or even braids. Scarves can also make your hair appear "neater" if you can wear one at work. - It might. I wouldn't use it though. Maybe try spraying a little lemon juice, that can help tame hair slightly. - Ripping them apart shouldn't hurt them if it's only day 3 - Salt water. Much cheaper Not necessarily. I didnt section or back comb, and my hair is not that big of a mess. Its not poofy, and they don't try to eat each other up. I've never had a problem making my hair look 'presentable' for jobs etc. I guess I just don't have crazy hair?
Thanks for all the assistance. I did end up having to use some hairspray for the wedding I went to on NYE, but I washed it out that night and again the following morning. I did a little bit of back-combing today and it's doing a really good job at sectioning itself, I've only had separate the back. I'm really happy thus far with them. I really thought it was going to be this painstaking process, but so far so good. I've been wearing my hair in loose ponytails for work and they actually look nice. My normally straight hair is fuller looking with dreads, so I'm lovin it. At night or while at home I wear them down. My husband and I bought fleece bedding yesterday, so my pillowcase should also help with the whole process! This whole not having to brush my hair thing is glorious. I've hated the way my hair has looked for SO long. This is such an awesome start to the new year & I will post pics soon. ps - How should I mix the salt water? How many teaspoons to how much water? Thanks again!!!!!!!
for the salt thing Iusualyl do to the point of saturation, where when you mix in more salt to the water that it just sinks to the bottom rather mixing in with the water.
