    Umm this will sound dumb

But this thing about barefoot, do you just not like wearing shoes or is there a deeper meaning?

I was just wondering because I'm not a barefooter and I dont understand, or it seems I do, but my understanding seems to basic for all the hype about going barefoot.

nah ... not a dumb question.

the short answer is I hate wearing shoes. the longer answer would be the health benefits of going barefoot and it just plain feels good.

Hey Retrogroove...Take your shoes and socks off and run barefoot through some nice soft earth or grass. Get your soles dirty and notice how nice it feels with your bare soles communicating with mother nature. Go ahead take them off.

    Get 'em bare
    Keep 'em bare

For me it's simple too! I just don't see the need for shoes!

As a child I was pretty much barefoot, as a teen the same (although parents sometimes tried to change me) and now as an adult - well I choose not to wear them as it is by far more comfortable being barefoot 24/7.

Also, if you get into a particular outfit for an outing somewhere you don't have to worry if your shoes don't match. Barefeet matches everything!

    Avagoodone...

p.s. No offence meant, but you live in Oz and your not a barefooter? Which state??

For me, my want to go barefooted is mostly related to the idea of being close to nature, for the most part anyway. It's also (of course) related to pleasure (nothing feels better than walking on soft grass barefoted) and also a tiny bit of a foot-fettish thing (although that's more to do with other peoples feet, moreso than my own), but mostly it's closeness to nature that I enjoy.

Now unlike a lot of the people in this forum, I've not got anythnig against shoes myself, and do wear shoes a lot as I believe there are times when it's pratical...

But I also believe that it's often good to recharge your body, and I can't think of a better battery to use than the earth under your barefeet - skin to earth contact...

    Anyway, that's just me :)

To answer the health benefits question:

Going barefoot makes your feet stronger. In shoes, your feet are held in an unnatural position (kinda like having your arm in a sling everyday) You foot muscles atrophy and your arches dont evelop correctly. Going barefoot for awhile, your arches rise and your feet become stronger. Plus your feet aren't stuck in the moist dark environment created by shoes that can breed all the nice bacteria that is responsible for athlete's foot and the awful aroma that those of us that barefoot don't have to deal with.

Besides that, it does put you more in touch with the earth and just feels good. I recommend the SBL website below for more information.

Going barefoot is comfortable and a matter of personal style. Your feet are free to grow naturally. Fulltime barefooters usually have wider, stronger feet than their shod counterparts. I said style because some prefer high heels, skirts, dresser, pants or whatever they feel they look attractive in.

I find barefoot girls attractive. Your feet will get dirty when you go barefoot, moreso depending on where you walk. You will NOT get athlete's foot while barefoot, nor corns or deformities. Your feet will adapt to the environment and become stronger and tougher so hot pavement, gravel, rocks, glass, etc. will not bother you.

I've had a couple of ex-girlfriends who were also fulltime barefooters. At the end of the day you couldn't tell which had the blacker feet! I find a barefoot girl with dirty feet appealing. It means she's been barefoot for a long time and is self-confident and comfortable in her style.

I don't fault you for not "getting it," since I didn't even really get it until about '98 or so, when I was 27 years old!

I'd always had a "thing" for feet -- a foot fetish -- but that didn't involve me being barefoot. But after finding stuff on "barefooting" on the internet (see www.barefooters.org) I got intrigued.

I began going barefoot, and discovered what I had been missing.
Barefooting is a simple, pure, totally human pleasure. It's relaxing for me, to have my feet free and unbound. I enjoy feeling the different textures and temperatures and hardness and softness of the surfaces I walk on. I like that my muscles are getting more exercise than they would if I walked in shoes. I feel better balance and coordination than when I wear shoes (which is now very rare). I even use my feet to pick things up! :p

It definitely is a pleasure that grows on you. There is a likelihood that if you start going barefoot as a habit, eventually it will feel really foreign to you to put on shoes -- even unpleasant. I think that's a good thing. :)

    Blue skies,
    -Jeffrey

Well, it's kind of like what peacefuljeffrey said on his last post, I as well have a very big foot-fetish with girl's feet, I just think that they're very sexy and beautify to look at, especially when the girl is beautify herself.

If you felt like it one day, maybe you could sent a picture of your feet on the site.

ha, ha, that would be cool!;)

how do you not catch cold, in the rain or snow? How come no broken piece of glass bottle on some road rips your feet?

If it were all about running and wandering on green grass, then I would definitely go barefoot but thats just not the case.

It feels un natural to ware shoes. When I ware shoes and I take them off I feel the difference right away. I'll never be one of those people who can have lots of prety shoues that feel like crap on my feel and rip my skin up etc. Shoes are over rated. I drive better with bare feet. I feel freer with bare feet and my feet dont stink and sweat with bare feet. I can always wiggle my toes.
